On the B&P Farm

Since 1975, Bread & Puppet Theater has been performing circuses and pageants in the rolling fields, pine forest, and gravel pit amphitheater at our homebase at 753 Heights Rd. Glover, VT. The former dairy farm features multiple performance venues including our Paper Maché Cathedral and the newly opened Museum of Anti-Modern Art at 514 Heights Rd (one driveway West of B&P on Rt. 122). Performances run June through October.

Samhain

Saturday, November 7, 4-7pm

ImageJoin us for a Samhain ritual, led by Maria Schumann, to remember the dead and thank the sleeping fields, forests, and gardens.

Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter. The souls of dead kin were thought to revisit their homes seeking hospitality, and a place was set at the table for them during a Samhain meal.

We will dress like death, make a procession through the field to the pine forest, stopping along the way to honor the dead and sing to the trees, fields, and sky. At the pine forest, all are invited to make altars and grieve for their dead. Biodegradable only please. Bring a song, poem or letter to share if you like. We will end with a bonfire, soup, and bread.

Samhain is not a Bread and Puppet show, but rather a seasonal, participatory ritual taking place on the Bread and Puppet Farm.
Wear black or white. Bring a candle lantern. The event will take place rain or shine, and will involve walking, so dress accordingly.

Schedule:
4:00: park and gather in the Bread and Puppet circus field, Learn
simple songs and dances.
4:30 pm: process through the fields
5:30 pm: dance of death, offerings, songs, bonfire, soup
