Personal opinion. I don't want to talk to a NPC who can just talk forever about... nothing. A game is about a story and an experience. If someone didn't craft the story or experience to move it forward, I don't want to just talk to some random forever about random stuff.

Seems two parts of changing landscape and self inflicted. I would want to read my local news site. But between the aggressive ads, pop ups, cookie banners, download our app banners and straight up paywalls, it is easier to just get ‘news’ from social media.

Solar panels or a heat pump. Making your own power is a strangely powerful feeling. And then transforming that into heat or cold is empowering. You think to yourself ‘I can set the temperature to 65 degrees in the summer and it costs me nothing’. Then you do it.

I would argue the other way. Someone took a hard, great and expensive thing (climbing gear) and noticed it did something else really well (one motion connect and hold) So they made a version that doesn't have to do the hard things and it does its just very well.
