Son’s travel ball career comes to a close. Thought I would share observations as both a parent & a college coach. I understand that my opinions & observations do not apply to every travel org. Please dont @ me if your experience is/was different. I am making generalizations

Lots schools and fall baseball getting ready to start in the coming weeks. Some advice to the 1st year guys. This is a bit easier on transfers but might help as well. 1-Don’t spend the whole year figuring out if you belong. The staff recruited you, they saw something in you

The best thing I've seen in a while. Baseball is simple when you use common sense. This RBI bunt single by Frazier is the beginning to end the nonsense! 😁😁😁 Who's in favor of bringing back mandatory pepper games? Bat control will come back folks!

Difficult week. Would like to thank all of the friends, family, players (past, current & future), coaches and colleagues who’ve reached out with kind words and encouragement- This process reveals a lot - thank you 🙏

Looking at it thru the lens of being fortunate enough to be able to afford to allow him to follow his passion, have fun, & travel the country might also reduce your stress level as you watch him play. There’s only a handful of summers he gets to do this so enjoy! It goes fast

Like any college coach I get lots of emails - personal & templates from scouting services. That’s fine. My advice tho is that if u have a strong interest in a place, be willing to go their camp.

Once heard a well-respected coach describe the recruiting process in terms of risk-tolerance. It made sense to me so I will try to share it here. Please don’t @ me because of the generalizations that I will make. Quite aware that a D3 or 2 could potentially be better than a D1

If you are a travel coach and your team is playing in one of the bigger tournaments of the year for which you pay a significant amount of money, how was it remotely OK that your roster is nowhere near accurate in the tournament roster book?

2-getting players ready for college is more than teaching how to hit the ball harder or throw it faster. Base running, cuts/relays, situational hitting, mental game should be on the docket. More team-oriented baseball needs to be coached

I wish HS and travel coaches would let their catchers run bases til 2 outs - especially if they’re college or higher level prospects - 1 less adjustment they have to make at the next level

Right or wrong? Who knows. For athletes to find out via a tweet that their championship has just been canceled? We can do better.

4-PO’s should have to be there for every practice, every inning, and every game. Once a PO gets to the big leagues they can shower when their outing is officially done. Until then be a part of your team. It will be that way in college.

7-i’ve been amazed by how much this process costs. Parents, my suggestion is to NOT look at it as an investment. It is the price of allowing your son to play baseball & travel. With 11.7 scholarships in college baseball the ROI is really low.
