One unusual thing in finance vs tech is once you get rejected once, many firms won't accept an application ever again. I failed a DE Shaw in-person interview 15 years ago and they've rejected my resume every time since then.

My nonna made the worst green beans I ever tasted and then someone majoring in classics sent me a list of ancient Roman recipes and the awful wine marinated bean recipe was there.

One time I sent what I thought was a bug in the STL to Microsoft and their main STL dev Stephan Levavej responded. I tried reporting a bug in a Netflix app and there wasn't any way to do it.

Pull up NYC roles, mobile engineer, backend/frontend engineer slop, solutions consultant. Yeah no, I'll stick with speed of light core wars.

    >be you >work in HFT shaving nanoseconds off latency or extracting bps from models >have existential dread >see this tweet, wonder if your skills could be better used making AGI >apply to attend this party, meet the openai team >build AGI

Ways tradfi HFT firms fail in crypto - wrong signals for periodic L2 books - not checking data integrity - rigid C++ code - hyperfocusing on single venue - gatekeeping/incompetent devops, scared of AWS - insufficient capture for high fees/rate limits - treated like a side project

The base pay for traders at the fund I worked at in 2016 was $150k. Now many places are still offering $150k base at the low end. Haven't these guys looked at NYC rents recently? It's like $60k/year just to have a decent commute.

Let me tell you how to build a high frequency trading system using all the best practices. If you don't like this then clearly your practices aren't the best. First split everything up into microservices that talk through IPC, that way profiling and debugging is really annoying
