🚨Heat kills. More New Yorkers die from heat each year than from hurricanes, floods, or winter storms—often in homes without A/C. Let's protect each other: ✅Share cool options ✅Check on older adults + neighbors ✅Take breaks & hydrate if you work outside nyc.gov/beattheheat

Legionnaires' update: After completing all initial screening tests (PCR tests), we have ordered 76 buildings on the Upper East Side to clean and disinfect their cooling towers.
Text reads: Upper East Side Legionnaires’ Disease Cluster: PCR-Positive Cooling Tower Systems

The following buildings in the investigation zone
have cooling towers that tested positive in a PCR
test. A PCR test identifies traces of living or dead
Legionella bacteria. Owners of all towers with positive initial results must immediately drain, clean, and disinfect their cooling towers to reduce the risk of further exposure.

In addition to the PCR screening tests, another more conclusive type of test, a culture test, is also being conducted for all sampled cooling towers. Culture tests take up to two weeks for results and will confirm which cooling towers had live Legionella bacteria growing at the time the water sample was collected.

Update as of July 14, 2026.
