When I started this instance, I envisioned it as a social network
.
Like the hallway track at #BSDCan
. Or when we wander the streets at #EuroBSDCon
. And like when we hit up the bars at #AsiaBSDCon
.
Chat about anything! Everything! Code is cool, but so is anything in your noggin. Good thing so many of you are already doing that

/me puts Admin Hat on.
Hi everybody!
The bsd.network instance has a Code Of Conduct, viewable at https://bsd.network/terms or via the "Terms and Conditions" link that is sprinkled around a few places.
The TL;DR is "be cool unto others". However, since society at large has demonstrated they can't be cool, we had to write out a bunch of things.
Hey, users of bsd.network. Be cool unto people, and people will be cool unto you. Interacting with people is a *privilege* not a *right*. This is a private place owned by me and @aag and we want it to be friendly and nice.
We don't want to have to swing the admin-hammer to correct your behaviour!
But we will.
I have created a #Librepay account for donations to me. I intend to use any monies to cover my open-source work, and for hosting this instance. https://liberapay.com/phessler/
Since donations through the service are anonymous, I don't know if, or how much, people have donated.
Y'know what, if you want to crossdress for Halloween, go for it. I trust you to be cool, and to be somewhere on a scale from "rad artistic choice" to "kinda funny to be wearing something wildly different than your normal", or perhaps even "legit exploring something, just a tad".
Speaking as a longstanding trans lady, I won't feel mocked unless you go out of you way to mock us.
been a while since I’ve mentioned it but this cover of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Molly Ringwald is pretty great, and the rest of the album doesn’t suck either.
I've been thinking about my comments given at the mic at the Digital Sovereignty presentation at the #RIPE93 closing plenary session. I want to give it again, on Fedi, and possibly expand on it.
Stay tuned, for when I have the energy and time.
US labor costs increased moderately in the third quarter amid a slowdown in wage growth, suggesting that the labor market was unlikely to be an inflation risk.
literally calling us out, y’all.
“Labor-cost inflation continues to move in the right direction,” said Priscilla Thiagamoorthy, a senior economist at BMO Capital Markets. “While consumer inflation remains elevated, the Fed will take some comfort from the fact that the labor market is no longer a significant source of price pressures.”
they’re saying we’re too cowed to fight for a fair wage so at least they got that going for them.
push the fuck back, y’all.
Ugh, busses! Airport busses are the worst. Jetway for teh win.

More "boring" service providers who are content with a modest profit margin and slow organic growth, please. I don't even care if the UI looks "dated" and new features take a long time to be built. Traditional boring bare metal, only add new customers when you have capacity to support it, whatever.
A company of 50+ year old tech veterans who have been laid off and left behind from age discrimination just looking to keep the bills paid until retirement.
Run it like a co-op, like a little credit union that isn't looking to expand quickly, just serve their little niche of the community.
Anthropic Visual Studio Claude Code extension on Cursor has malware in it, which creates a remote access Trojan to desktops.
My favorite Patrick Stewart story arose out of a chance encounter. We happened both to be seated on the same flight in the same cabin near one another. I looked over and saw a familiar bald pate and furrowed brow.
“Aren't you…?” I asked him.
He looked over and his face lit up with delight. Then he spoke to me in that unmistakable proper manner of his.
“Well aren't YOU!” he responded, his eyes twinkling.
We had a good laugh. Rest in power—warp power—Sir Patrick Stewart.

We have reached the 400€ mark of monthly recurring revenue from subscriptions for #Git hosting. Thanks everyone! ![]()
Some people who understand TLS very well (because they develop a TLS library), use this in their #Git config file. Maybe everyone else should use this, too.
