Caption preferences

Keep captions on
or off, automatically

If you watch with captions, have available captions turn on automatically for each video. If you prefer them off, keep them off. Set your preference once and it carries over to the next video. You can also follow YouTube’s settings. Any manual change takes priority for the current viewing only.

When burned-in subtitles and YouTube captions
use different languages, choose how to handle them

If burned-in subtitles and YouTube captions use different languages, you can close the captions automatically, be asked first, or keep them. Detection acts only with supported languages and sufficient evidence.

FAQ

Search and revisit moments
Enter a keyword and move between matches with Previous and Next. Click a sentence’s timestamp to seek; pause following while reading and return to the current position. Switch between available caption tracks; no translation is generated.
Select, copy and download
Copy the full text, or enable selection mode, choose sentences, and copy or download them. You can also select search matches. Text settings control timestamps, paragraphs and line breaks; each sentence has a quick copy button.
Which downloads are Free or Pro?
Reading, search, seeking, selection, copying and TXT downloads are free. Pro adds SRT, VTT, PDF and Markdown; paid and gifted Pro have the same benefits. SRT/VTT need a complete track with reliable timing. The 10-video allowance only counts successful duplicate-caption closures, not transcripts or caption switching.
Can I get a transcript without captions?
Transcripts use YouTube’s available captions, including existing automatic captions. Videos without them cannot be transcribed, and burned-in captions are not converted into a full transcript. Some sources provide partial text, which is labeled. Live or restricted videos may be unavailable. This feature does not download video or audio.
Can I request a refund?
Request a full refund within 14 days of your first purchase or 7 days of an annual renewal.
How do I turn off subtitles on YouTube? Why does one layer remain?
Click CC in the YouTube player to turn off switchable captions. Burned-in subtitles are part of the video image, so CC cannot remove them. subtitle.im detects these subtitles and handles duplicate captions according to your settings. A manual CC change stops automatic adjustment for this viewing without changing saved rules.
How do I automatically turn YouTube captions on or off?
In Caption control, choose Follow YouTube, Auto-open, or Auto-close. Follow stops proactive opening; duplicate handling still uses its separate settings. Auto-open needs an existing track. Auto-close turns off switchable captions without detection or duplicate-handling charges. Manual CC/C changes win over video, channel, and global settings for this viewing; manually opened captions stay on. Reloading or opening another video restores the rules. Burned-in subtitles remain; no captions are generated or translated.
What if burned-in subtitles and YouTube captions use different languages?
With enough evidence of burned-in subtitles in another language, it follows your choice: close automatically, ask first or keep the switchable captions. Choose keep if you want both languages visible.
Can it detect burned-in subtitles in every video?
It can generally detect most clear, common burned-in subtitles, though misses and false positives can occur. Low resolution, unusual placement or complex lettering can reduce accuracy. When evidence is insufficient it keeps switchable captions; if they are hidden by mistake, undo from the prompt or turn YouTube CC back on.
How do I restore captions hidden by mistake?
Use Undo or Restore in the extension prompt, or turn YouTube CC back on. Restoration affects this viewing only and does not remove burned-in subtitles from the image.
Are video frames uploaded?
Recognizes text in your browser without uploading frames. No email needed for the free trial.
How are the 10 free videos counted?
Each installation includes 10 different videos in total, with no monthly reset. Only successful duplicate-caption closures count. Transcripts, ordinary caption switching, detection alone, failed recognition and manual CC changes do not use the allowance; rewatches of the same video do not count again.
Can I buy or activate Pro now?
Annual and Lifetime Pro are available to buy. Sign in and pay through Waffo hosted checkout; check the total, taxes, renewal and cancellation terms there. Pro depends on server-confirmed payment and access records. Signing in or returning to the website alone does not activate access.
