Random events are initiated by jumping to another system. Every time you jump, or if you have run out of fuel, there is a chance for a battle, interaction with locals of the sector, or for nothing to happen. Quests are started in some of these events. There are also distress signals that may come from different systems. Keep your eye out for blue options which often lead to more favorable outcomes.
Quest beacons will normally be placed in the current sector. However, if you don't have many jumps left, the game will push the quest into the next sector instead. If this happens in sector 7, the quest will be "cancelled", because quests are not allowed in sector 8.
For more details about events and how they interact with a beacon map of a sector, see: Technical details of sector generation and events.
- "Auto-ship" -- notation for an automated/A.I. Rebel ship/scout.
- "[Rebel] fight" -- event with a forced fight vs [faction] ship.
- "Rebel fight [(Slug)]" -- event with a forced fight in a [(specific sector)].
- "Mantis fight [choice]" -- event with an option to avoid a fight, which is otherwise guaranteed; the success to avoid the fight is not always guaranteed.
- "Rebel fight [chance]" -- event with a possibility for a fight, which is otherwise avoidable; a blue option guarantees the fight.
- "[Mantis ship] attacking [civilian]" -- event with a double rewards fight vs a [faction ship] with an option to avoid the fight; the second reward is not always guaranteed.
- "[Mantis ship] attacking [Slug ship]" -- event with a double rewards fight vs a [faction ship] with an option to avoid the fight and an option to fight another [faction ship]; the second reward is not always guaranteed.
If you want to see all events info on a single page, look at this non-wiki page.
Events article pages may contain technical information (usually found in the "Notes" section at the bottom of the page), while cultural trivia is located at Easter eggs and trivia page. (Note: some events pages have not been completely formatted, so they retain their "Trivia" section, with some trivia leftovers, instead of a proper "Notes" section)
NOTE: DO NOT ALTER the events texts! These come from the game files and must contain typos as they are seen in the actual game. Usually such typos are followed by a sic! notation, though that could not always be the case.
Events that do not appear in unmodified FTL game do not have individual article pages and are not part of any category. To see some of them, look here.
