Given: Volume 5 is the fifth volume of given.
Cover description[]
The cover presents an emotionally charged and visually striking scene that captures the heart of the manga's themes. At the center is Mafuyu Satō, illustrated in detailed black and white, his tousled hair and expressive eyes directed upward as he sings passionately into a microphone. His mouth is slightly open mid-song, and the intensity in his expression reflects vulnerability, longing, and catharsis—key elements of his emotional journey throughout the series. He holds a guitar close to his body, with fingers poised on the strings, suggesting he is mid-performance. The grayscale rendering of Mafuyu contrasts sharply with the vivid explosion of angular, multicolored triangles in the background, symbolizing the raw energy and emotional release of music. These bold geometric shapes—red, orange, pink, and purple—create a dynamic sense of movement, as if sound is reverberating through the image.

- This section, or a part of it, has been transcluded from Volume 1; any changes involving it should be made there instead.
- Love of music unites the four members of the band Given: hotheaded guitarist Uenoyama, playboy drummer Akihiko, gentle bassist Haruki, and Mafuyu, a singer gifted with great talent and burdened by past tragedy. Their struggles and conflicts may drive them apart, but their bond to the music—and to one another—always brings them back together again.
- The final round of the music festival tryout is about to begin, but that's not the only source of tension in the band. Mafuyu, who's been spending a lot of time at Ugetsu and Akihiko's place, learns about the complicated history between the two and realizes that Haruki's heartbreak is part of that romantic tangle. Things come to a head during the band's performance, where the emotions unleashed by Mafuyu's new song will change the course of their lives forever.[4]

English[]
- The band, now going by the name Given, enters a competition to take part in an upcoming a music festival. Haruki continues to nurse his secret crush on Akihiko, who's still entangled with his roommate and ex-boyfriend, professional violinist Ugetsu Murata. Driven into a corner by that dead-end relationship, Akihiko shows up at Haruki's place out of desperation. Haruki can't just stand by while Akihiro is suffering, but his heart breaks when even his offer to help is rejected. However, he still lets Akihiro move in with him, since the volatile drummer is effectively homeless after leaving the house he had shared with Ugetsu.
- When Ritsuka Uenoyama hears Mafuyu Sato sing for the first time, he's blown away by the other boy's raw talent and immediately asks Mafuyu to join his band. Uenoyama's bandmates Akihiko Kaji and Haruki Nakayama agree, and the three of them set a goal of coming up with a new song to perform at an upcoming concert. It falls to Mafuyu to write the lyrics, a task the quiet student finds impossible. Mafuyu lost his first love to suicide, which he partially blames himself for, a trauma that has left him reluctant to put his feelings into words.
- However, during the concert, Mafuyu's pent-up emotions burst out of him and pour into the song. His spontaneous, powerful performance turns the show into an overwhelming success. Shocked into awareness, Uenoyama realizes he has feelings for Mafuyu and kisses him backstage. Before long, the two of them become a couple.[3]
