The following landscape paintings were done with soft pastels and pastel pencils. Occasionally, I do a painting with pastel pencils only, but those are rare. I seem to like getting my fingers dusty! I use a variety of papers as substrates. I discuss some of them here and here.
Recent paintings are on top, and sold paintings are marked as such. Unless noted otherwise, all images are based on my own photographs.

“Deeper Still”
Various soft pastels on Fabriano Elle Erre, 10×8″
Our path climbs parallel to the creek below. Behind us, the rush of the waterfall has softened to a whisper. Though we are deep within the forest, the woods continue to beckon, calling us deeper still.

“The Sentinel Greets the Dawn”
Various soft pastels on Strathmore, 10×8″
Another year has added another ring to the mighty trunk. Fall mornings are colder, but no less glorious than those of Summer. Towering toward the heavens, with the best view in the wood, the sentinel greets the dawn.

“Opening”
Various soft pastels on MingART Standard, 14×11″
The trickle grows into a stream. The fissure deepens and widens. In time, it creates an opening for the light.
