What is Non-Functional Testing?

Non-function testing is a broad term for any test designed to validate that a product, service, system or document meets a non-functional requirement.

Non-functional Requirements

Non-function requirements include things such as accessibility, architecture, information security, compliance, operations, design, disaster recovery, performance and quality that aren't consider core business functions. What is non-function to one business may be functional to another so there is no universal classification of non-functional requirement.

Notes

In many cases, an organization has no specific activity called "non-functional testing." Instead, it is separated into practices such as information security testing, performance testing, operational readiness testing and compliance testing.
