    The hurricane that @NWS has been warning about is here! Tornadoes and heavy rainfall have begun impacting Florida well ahead of the expected landfall of #Milton. Be sure to have multiple sources for weather alerts. I urge those in harm’s way to continue heeding advice from local
    2pm ET Update: Map of the current position of Hurricane Milton and the track across central Florida today. Hurricane Warnings are in effect for a large portion of the state.

    More incredibly sad news this week of the unnecessary death of children left in a hot car in Texas, Mississippi and California. There have been 27 such fatalities this year. These are preventable! See this video for some tips.

    As rain from #Debby continues to drench parts of the Eastern US, the updated NOAA Hurricane Season Outlook maintains that many more storms are to come! Forecasters at the NWS are ready to keep you informed, and please be sure to take steps to be prepared!

    It was amazing to witness the latest @NOAA satellite soar toward orbit! GOES-U will be an invaluable tool for the @NWS to forecast hurricanes, fires, & severe storms. A new coronagraph will help expand warning lead times for geomagnetic storms.

Here is a snapshot of the alerts issued by NWS forecasters across the nation between April 26 and May 10, 2024.

    4/25 to 5/10, 2024 was a busy stretch for @NWS. 3,859 tornado, severe, and flood watches and warnings. 267 confirmed tornadoes. Followed by a G5 geomagnetic storm, warnings by @NWSSWPC prevented major impacts. All while getting ready for hurricane season and onsite for wildfires.
