From national investment to local impact. In the West of England, locals use the Bristol and Bath Railway Path to get to work, school, and for leisure. In Cotham Hill, pedestrianisation is boosting businesses and helping families get more active.

The evidence is clear – active travel benefits the nation. Walking, wheeling and cycling for everyday journeys – to work, school, the shops or for leisure – supports our health, keeps money in our pockets and boosts local high streets.
Text reads: ‘Worth Every Step. How active travel benefits the nation.’ Text against a visualisation of a town.
Text reads: ‘Households that give up a second car in favour of active short trips could save around £1,700 per year on average – that’s more than £17,000 over 10 years.’
Text reads: ‘More people adopting healthier lifestyles would free up around 1.7 million GP appointments every year and lead to 4.4 million fewer sick days.’

Today, we launched Worth Every Step – our plan for how we will continue to raise standards in street design, delivering thousands of new routes and crossings by 2030.
Text reads: ‘New national targets in the third Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy.’ Text against a visualisation of a town.
Text reads: ‘55% of short journeys in towns and cities will be walked, wheeled or cycled by 2035; and for 60% of children aged 5 to 16 to travel actively to school by the same year.’
Text reads: ‘Active Travel England will work with the Government and local authorities to deliver 5,000 new walking, wheeling and cycling routes and 10,000 safer crossings by 2030.’
Text reads: ‘Delivering the Government’s Cycling and Walking Investment strategy could lead to 2,500 fewer all-cause mortality deaths by 2035.’

Today, the Government has announced plans to deliver thousands of new walking, wheeling and cycling routes across England, transforming everyday trips to schools, shops and services. We're central to delivering this – helping to shape happier, healthier and greener communities.

This week is #BikeWeek. Swapping driving short journeys for cycling will save you money, make you healthier and might not take any longer as you won’t be sat in a traffic jam. Why not give it a go? @WeAreCyclingUK @WalkRideGM

After almost five years the River Calder Bridge on the #Padiham Greenway, #Lancashire is open again, with a smooth, #accessible path. 🎉 Local people celebrated by sowing wildflower seeds along new green strip on the bridge. Thanks @activetraveleng @burnleycouncil @NationalHways
