In speed train on my way from Nagoya to Tokyo, Japan then back to South Africa tomorrow. EVERYONE masked, see-through screens at restaurant tables and at university lecture halls. Ventilation everywhere. They are taking COVID seriously.

Our latest paper: More evidence that LongCOVID symptoms are due to widespread endothelial damage and a failed fibrinolytic system. We again found numerous entrapped inflammatory molecules; and this time also antibodies in microclots @dbkell #teamclots

On this eve of the new year, I wish you a blessed and healthy 2023. My wish for you, if you are suffering from LongCOVID or ME/CFS; or if you are caring for someone, is to never give up. A special shout-out to all my #TeamClots collaborators - you all rock! We will not give up.

Today is LongCOVID awareness day. Let us keep on advocating for better care, a focus on diagnosing patients and the urgency for research. @dbkell @doctorasadkhan @PutrinoLab @VirusesImmunity @ahandvanish @EricTopol #teamclots @WHO

We are doing our best. We are working day and night, we eat-work-sleep longcovid. We miss out on family time, we are awake at all hours, meeting with like-minded researchers in other timezones. We read every paper on the subject. We are trying! We promise! @dbkell #TeamClots

Today is #LongCovidAwarenessDay. My promise to patients who are desperate for acknowledgment and care: we will not stop until we have accessible diagnostics and accepted treatments. #noplaceforminimizers whn.global/scientific/spe…

Wonderful to see the @RobWust team at the #KSLongCoVID24 symposium. They found amyloid deposits, identified by ThT in the muscle. Perhaps due to movement of the amyloid deposits via the damaged vasculature?

Exciting to see microclots and platelets in the US LongCOVID population too! @PutrinoLab and @VirusesImmunity research lab equipped to do microclot and platelet analysis! Next stop Harvard: @microbeminded2 @polybioRF, @MBVanElzakker

Delighted to host @resiapretorius and @PutrinoLab at Yale today. @ValterVSM and I learned how to image #microclots and activated platelets. Activated platelet stained with anti-CD62P antibody are evident just looking through the eyepiece 👀 This is from a #longCOVID patient👇🏽😭

We should stop saying that patients infected with #Omicron only have mild symptoms and therefore implying it is ok to get it! As we have seen the past months, patients with mild symptoms can (and do) develop #longcovid. Can our global economy and health-systems REALLY cope?

WHEN will we be taken seriously? LongCOVID is a microvascular disease: endothelialitis, microclots, platelet hyperactivation with immune and perfusion dysfunction. D-dimer is not a suitable test. @DrGrahamLJ @Sunny_Rae1 @doctorasadkhan @BinitaKane @dbkell @drclairetaylor

“These abnormalities were through advanced imaging techniques like dual-energy CT scans & ventilation-perfusion scans. These tests revealed a non-segmental & ‘patchy’ perfusion abnormality in the upper lungs, suggesting that the problem was vascular, Price explained.” #LongCovid

This paper is absolutely significant! ACE2-mediated endothelial damage together with amyloid fibrin(ogen) microclots and platelet hyperactivation might be the fundamental reasons for thrombotic endothelialitis and vascular permeability in LongCOVID @doctorasadkhan @dbkell

If you *think* your long COVID was *cured* because you decided you should stop stressing then you most probably did not have it in the first place. Anyone suggesting long COVID is all in patients heads are causing unimaginable damage!

I think @HumzaYousaf needs to be aware of the damage that Alan Carson is doing by spouting utter nonsense. I cannot psychologically create cardiac microvascular dysfunction and a lactic acidosis!! The psychiatrists need to stop butting in to physical illness.
