When I say, I've got a sense of humor, I mean that my jokes are funny.

When you say, you've got a sense of humor, you mean that you make people laugh about you involuntarily.

We are not the same.

My public library has an email service that sends a reminder three days before a medium I took out is due. Since I have to manage four accounts and the email only comes this once, I frequently miss due dates.

So I decided to write a small python script that logs in to my online account, checks all my media, figures out if something is due within the next three days  (or overdue) and sends me a notification to my phone every day.

Sometimes I love scripting :)

Just came across this project: https://elektricm.github.io/amd-bc250-docs/getting-started/introduction/#who-is-this-for

This is marketed as a sort of DIY Steam Machine and I'm a little tempted, but I don't feel overly confident in my ability to not screw everything up. Also, who knows how well this thing actually holds up in the long term. I'm just not a hardware guy.

@foosel I just watched your FrOSCon talk on managing an open-source project and I wanted to say "thank you" for your work. Thank you. I currently don't own a 3D printer (neither space nor spare cash, unfortunately), but if or when I get one, I'll be sure to check out Octoprint more thoroughly (and do my best, not to submit annoying bug reports).

Also, thanks for sharing your insights into managing such a project in general, I took it as an incentive to update my own site :)

All the best and I hope the balance of "is it worth it?" will stay in your favor for a while to come.

From another job ad:
"[Company name] is a carbon accounting platform where enterprises log, calculate, and report their CO2 emissions.

You'll thrive in this role if you::

Are AI-native in your engineering practice. Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent, integrated into your daily flow. You use AI to move faster on framework work, refactoring, and repetitive automation. You have opinions on where AI helps and where it does not."

Am I the only one who sees a conflict of interest here? Or the irony? Yes? Moving on, then.

  • [...]
    "

Kannste dir nicht ausdenken. Moving on...

So I'd like to track the sleep of my 6-year-old kid, is there anyone out there who can recommend me something? My thoughts/requirements are the following:

  • Collected data must absolutely not leave my house, meaning either I have complete control over any involved devices or they don't get network access
  • The most important thing is detecting when he is awake (or not), sleep stages (deep, light, REM) would probably be nice to have, but not essential
  • Any device that requires a mattress or a bed won't work
  • I'd like to avoid proprietary apps, if at all possible. Something compatible with Gadgetbridge would be nice (in case of a wearable etc.).
  • So far, I was considering a wearable, but most of the eligible ones seem to be watches and I'm not sure, if a device with a screen is wise. If it can be turned off or something, that would be acceptable, I think. Also, not sure how compatible all these things are with kids' wrists.

I'd be very grateful for pointers or experience by other people! Boost appreciated.

Umami can do session replays and heatmaps so now I can follow people around who visit my website (not my blog). It's kinda fun bit also completely pointless, because I can't (and won't) process the information in any meaningful way :)

Having code written by an LLM, having it reviewed by someone else using an LLM and then reacting to the raised points by delegating it to an LLM because no one actually understand the code base. You gotta love it!

Got around to writing another #blost. It's a technical one this time, it felt easier than the heavier subject I have on my mind a lot lately. So in case you're up for a non-political spelunking trip into GitOps with Docker Compose, here you go: https://bfloeser.de/more-gitops-please

Thanks to the fine people at @homelab !
