Memorabilia: London

Image

Memorabilia
66 Norlington Road, Leyton, London E10 6LA
6th July - 15th July 2013
Curated by Carne Griffiths
http://www.carnegriffiths.com/

"What? … Memorabilia – is an exhibition of artwork and found objects inspired by childhood memories. The exhibition will be curated by Carne Griffiths who organised the 100sqft exhibition in 2009, which travelled from London to New Orleans and featured the work of almost 500 artists. The exhibition will form a part of the Leytonstone Arts Trail, guaranteeing good footfall and exposure for involved artists. Memorabilia is primarily designed to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. "

" “We owe so much to GOSH, they saved our little girl, Noemi’s life,” says artist and organiser Carne Griffiths.
“Through their actions my wife Claire and I were inspired to do something positive. We wanted to create a sense of nostalgia with this show, to remind us of our inner child. Hopefully those feelings will raise money for the incredibly important work GOSH does.”

"Last year we were told our beautiful daughter had a condition Known as Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, we were told she had a 50% survival chance at birth, Thanks to the amazing care of Gt Ormond Street Hospital, she is now 9 months old, just come off her feeding tube and is getting stronger every day. This exhibition is our way of saying thank you to the people that saved her life, and to the resources that we were fortunate enough to have access to. A minimum of 30% of the work for sale will go to GOSH"

NEW Print Australia
http://printaustralia2.wordpress.com/
A relaunch of an old but very popular site first created in 1999. It contains highlights from a number of sites all republished along with new content. The theme is international printmaking.

“In 1999 Blakkbyrd founded Print Australia, an online arts project. Print Australia comprised multiple websites which combined to form one of the earliest social networking sites. It contained one of the first blogs “Impressions” covering PA’s activities from 1999 to 2004. The Reference Library Catalogue contained extensive listings of art related links and the Printmaking Methods page was number one on Google for “Printmaking”.”
Relocating

On the move yet again. This time from Sydney, Australia (with temperatures up to +40degrees) to Stockholm Sweden, (temps down to -40 degrees.)

There will be ongoing feature postings on Scandinavian Art and Culture on both blogs as we explore what is on offer.

Laser's book - Vice review

Image

ARE YOU READING ME?
Laser 3.14
Lebowski Publishers

ARE YOU READING ME?
Laser 3.14
Lebowski Publishers

I annoy myself always immoderate to those out of place expressive poëtica of laser 3.14 when I Amsterdam cycles. To be short, philosophical texts do me think a smattering of msn-namen those little girls at me on the high school always had. Laser not only plays on strongroom with the choice of its target group, also he spouts only on temporary fences, houtstellages, construction barracks, sealed doors, estimating being empty pawn and everything have do that but with modernisation. Although you has balls as much as more if you plaster on walls, makes this choice is tags, however, more characteristic. The short poems of laser form moreover sticking out an study aid for squatters: if you after for a year still the same reads poem on gone to the university, then must there something to crack be on that route. This book maps to laser 3.14 s leuzen. If you answer no on the question which puts the title, and only to the nicely documented spots pays attention, then you find heuse historical value in this publication. It indicates, as it happens, perfectly how Amsterdam all change those modernisations.

====================

One of the things I miss about Amsterdam is walking down the street and coming across a new text by Laser 3.14. So it was with great pleasure that I opened my mail recently to find a copy of his new book. Even more exciting was finding "Blakkbyrd" included in the photo credits.

This is a book worthy of any street art collection.

Editorial

Christmas is past and the New Year rapidly approaches.

I was asked recently about the drop in posts to the blogs. Both Bellebyrd and Blakkbyrd have less posts this year than previously. 2008 has been an interesting year. Most of the past six months has been taken up with travel and relocations, not to mention learning new languages and the establishment of the Byrdsong language blog.

All this is expected to change in 2009. At present I am surveying my current subscriptions and cleaning the slate for the new year. With a return to Australia there will be a greater coverage of the Australian art scene, and a lesser need to follow the day to day minutiae of Europe.

This month has seen the creation of indexes for Urban art on Blakkbyrd for the past four years, an extensive and time consuming task. Similarly, there are new indexes for Printmaking on Bellebyrd blog. Please enjoy. I intend to write more indexes on new media, art theory and copyright issues. Eventually all the individual themes on the two blogs will be covered.

To all my readers, I wish you the best in the New Year and hope that you will continue to enjoy the blogs in 2009.

Editorial: Relocation to Asia

Image

Its now official.

In the next couple of months The Aviary will be relocating to Asia. We have new premises in Taipei, Taiwan and we will be transferring our activities from Europe to Asia. What this means is that there will be a reduction in the amount of posts during the relocation, and once we are up and running again there will be a shift of emphasis to Taiwan material.

You might want to learn Mandarin as this will be necessary for reading many of the websites.

If you have first hand experience or contacts with Taiwan, we would love to hear about it.

If you live in Taiwan and can show us the hall of fame, we'd like to meet you.

Here's looking forward to networking and collaborations between Australia, Amsterdam and Taiwan.

Artfully yours

Launch of 5 year anniversary book.

I didnt realise until I read the book just how many exhibitions I had attended here in the past two years. The book is a useful reminder with numerous photos from all of the shows.

I was surprised to see that there is a photo of me in it, at the street art battle in 2006.
