RCMP officers shot and killed a twenty-eight-year-old man in Grande Prairie, Alberta, on the evening of December 8, 2020. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), which examines cases of police harm to civilians in the province, reports that RCMP were called regarding a disturbance in the area of 100 Street and 132 Avenue at around 8:15 PM. They report “an altercation” with two officers firing their gun and striking the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other details have been released publicly at this time. There has been a substantial delay in information being made available in this case. Despite the shooting occurring some time around 8:15 PM on December 8, local news outlets were still reporting this as an “incident” as late as 1:00 PM on December 9.
