Man Dies in RCMP Custody in Cranbrook, BC (June 27-30, 2026)

A man died in RCMP custody in Cranbrook, British Columbia, on June 30, 2026, following his arrest and detention in RCMP cells on June 27. The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) reports that around 9:15 PM on June 27, officers responded to a call about a man on the roof of a building near the intersection of Briar Avenue and 5th Street in Cranbrook. Police arrived and located the man, who they allege was in possession of weapons. Police contained the area and the man was eventually arrested. He was then driven to the police detachment. Shortly after 12 PM on June 28, officers observed the man to be in medical distress. Fire department members and paramedics arrived, and the man was taken by ambulance to a hospital in critical condition. On June 30, the man was pronounced dead in the hospital.


Edmonton Police Shoot and Kill Man (59) (June 26, 2026)

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) shot and killed a 59-year-old man on June 26, 2026. It is reported that at approximately 11:58 PM that evening, EPS were called by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) following a collision between a vehicle and an EFRS truck. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene. EPS officers later located a vehicle they believed matched the description they had in a garage at a residence on Christie Vista SW, EPS reportedly contained the residence. Police claim that when attempting to make contact with the man, some type of undisclosed “confrontation” occurred and an officer shot him. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

Police claims have not been independently verified publicly.


Cold Lake, Alberta, RCMP Shoot and Kill Man (June 25, 2026)

Cold Lake, Alberta, RCMP shot and killed a man on June 25, 2026. It is reported that RCMP received a call regarding a domestic incident at 4:48 PM. Officers arrived at the location and two other people at the residence were able to leave safely. Police determined the man inside had a firearm. Police claim attempts to communicate with the man were not successful and the Emergency Response Team was called to the location. One officer fired their weapon, striking the man. He was declared dead at the scene. No police were injured. Police claims have not been publicly confirmed.


Calgary Police Shoot and Kill Woman (June 21, 2026)

Calgary police shot and killed a woman during an arrest attempt following a traffic stop on June 21, 2026. It is reported that at 4:17 PM, Calgary Police Service (CPS) were called to Deerfoot Trail, just north of Memorial Drive, for reports of an erratic driver. in an SUV The vehicle in question was brought to a stop by police on Deerfoot Trail between 16 Avenue and Memorial Drive Southeast. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) reports that about 20 minutes after police first stopped the SUV, officers approached the passenger side of the vehicle, broke the front passenger-side window and deployed pepper spray (OC spray) into the vehicle. According to ASIRT, the woman then left the vehicle. Police responded by deploying a projectile launcher and a taser (Conducted Energy Weapon) on the woman. Finally, one officer fired a police rifle, striking her. The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, but she later died there.

No CPS officers or members of the public were hurt. Calgary police interactions with the woman prior to killing her have not been reported. Neither have the specific reasons they decided to open fire with multiple weapons after the vehicle was stopped.


Winnipeg Police Shoot and Kill Man (26) (June 19, 2026)

Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) officers shot and killed a 26-year-old man on June 19, 2026. The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), reports that WPS officers responded to a report of a “domestic incident in progress” in the presence of four children at a residence on Morrow Avenue near St. Anne’s Road in Winnipeg at approximately 1:28 AM. According to the IIU, the caller reported that her boyfriend had been fighting with her and that she had a bruised face and she requested an ambulance. At approximately 1:32 AM, the first of several police units arrived at the scene. Police claim that within approximately three minutes of arriving they encountered a man who was allegedly armed with a weapon. A WPS officer shot the man. He was transported to Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg in critical condition but died there.

WPS report that Indigenous people were involved in the incident but did not provide additional detail. They say they have reached out to the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak, as well as Grand Chief Garrisson Settee of the Pimicikamak Cree Nation to notify them of the shooting.

In a statement, Grand Chief Kyra Wilson of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs said,

“Families deserve answers, and the public deserves confidence that the circumstances surrounding this death will be fully examined and disclosed through proper investigative channels. For First Nations peoples, incidents involving police use of force must also be understood within the broader context of longstanding concerns regarding systemic discrimination, over-policing, and unequal outcomes within the justice system. Those realities underscore the importance of independent investigations that are rigorous, transparent, and capable of maintaining public confidence.”


Man Dies in RCMP Holding Cell in High Prairie, Alberta (June 16, 2026)

A man died in an RCMP holding cell in High Prairie, Alberta on June 16, 2026, following his arrest on June 14. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) reports that on June 14, a man from the High Prairie area turned himself in to the local RCMP detachment in relation to an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and held in custody ahead of being transferred to a correctional facility, as required by the terms of the warrant. On June 16, after about 30 hours in police custody, a civilian guard found the man unresponsive in a holding cell. He was later pronounced dead.


Man (42) Killed in Intervention by Security Guard at IGA Grocery Store in Longueuil, Quebec (June 16, 2026)

A 42-year-old man was killed in a physical intervention by a security guard at the IGA grocery store in the Centre Jacques-Cartier shopping mall in Longueuil, Quebec on June 16, 2026. A 911 call was made to the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) at 6:45 PM regarding the incident at 1401 Chambly Road. The victim was unconscious when police arrived at the scene, inside the IGA grocery store, just before 7 PM. He was transported to hospital where he was declared dead. The security guard involved in the death, a 20-year-old man, was arrested and later released under conditions.

La Presse has since reported that the security guard is a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and kickboxing enthusiast who was working as a plainclothes floor walker. They also report that the victim was reportedly asphyxiated by a neck hold, or “arm lock.”


Man Dies in Vancouver Police Department Custody (June 15, 2026)

A man died in Vancouver Police Department (VPD) custody in a VPD cell on June 15, 2026. The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) reports that the man had been arrested around 3 PM in the afternoon of June 14 near Main and East Hastings streets in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and was detained in the VPD jail on Cordova Street. At approximately 8 AM on the morning of June 15, staff found him unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.


Two People Killed in Police Chase by SQ in Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec (June 10, 2026)

Two people were killed in a police chase involving the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) which ended with a car submerged in the Rivière Delisle, near Côteau-du-Lac, Quebec (about 60 kilometers west of Montreal) in the early morning of June 10, 2026.

The Bureau des enquêtes indépendentes (BEI) reports that the chase began shortly after 1 AM when SQ officers noticed a vehicle whose owner was allegedly in breach of conditions and began a vehicular pursuit. At approximately 1:13 AM, the pursued vehicle went off the road and into the river.

The two occupants of the vehicle were recovered from the water with serious injuries and transported to hospital. They were pronounced dead there.

Noovo Info has reported that the driver of the vehicle was an 18-year-old boy, while the age of the passenger has not yet been reported.

The BEI has assigned seven investigators to examine the case. They are relying on a crash scene reconstruction technician with the Montreal police service (SPVM).


Vancouver Police Shoot and Kill Man (June 8, 2026)

Vancouver Police Department officers shot and killed a man on the evening of June 8, 2026.

According to the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO), the VPD deployed around 9 PM regarding reports of a man running through back yards in the 3600-block of Commercial Street, near East 20th Avenue, near Trout Lake. The VPD claim they arrived in the area and found that a person had gained entry to a residence and had taken a man hostage using a weapon. Police shot the person alleged to be the hostage taker. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was reportedly taken to hospital with injuries but has since been released.

Neighbors report hearing several shots. At least one stray bullet shattered the glass door of a neighboring unit.

Police claims have not been confirmed publicly. It has not been reported how long the interaction between police and the man lasted before police shot him.
