An Airdrie RCMP officer shot and killed a man near Irricana, Alberta (a town northeast of Calgary) on the evening of July 3, 2026. It is reported that Airdrie RCMP were deployed to an open-line 911 call on Highway 9 in Irricana at about 6:20 PM. Officers arrived and they allege some sort of unspecified “altercation” occurred with a man. At least one RCMP officer fired their weapon, striking the man. He was declared dead at the scene. None of the RCMP officers were injured.

Cold Lake, Alberta, RCMP shot and killed a man on June 25, 2026. It is reported that RCMP received a call regarding a domestic incident at 4:48 PM. Officers arrived at the location and two other people at the residence were able to leave safely. Police determined the man inside had a firearm. Police claim attempts to communicate with the man were not successful and the Emergency Response Team was called to the location. One officer fired their weapon, striking the man. He was declared dead at the scene. No police were injured. Police claims have not been publicly confirmed.
Man Shot and Killed by Sûreté du Québec in Saint-Raphaël (March 14, 2026)
A man was shot and killed by the Sûreté du Québec in Saint-Raphaël (65 kilometers southeast of Quebec City) on March 14, 2026. The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) reports that at approximately 6:18 PM, a 911 call was made for a person who was allegedly in possession of a firearm. Police located the person at their home and established a security perimeter. Police claim they tried to make contact with him before he allegedly left his home with a firearm. A police officer opened fire, striking the man. The victim was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The BEI has assigned five investigators to examine the killing.

Man (33) Shot and Killed by Brantford Police (January 16, 2026)
A 33-year-old man was shot and killed by Brantford Police Service (BPS) officers in the early morning of January 16, 2026. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reports that police were called regarding a dispute between a man and a woman in a home at 4 Palomino Drive in Brantford’s north end at around 2:30 AM. Emergency Response Team officers arrived and reportedly negotiated with the man. At some point police entered the residence and at approximately 4:30 AM three BPS officers opened fire, striking and killing the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The SIU has confirmed that the man and woman were married.
No details have been released about the timeline or nature of police actions leading up to and at the time of the shooting. It has been confirmed that the incident occurred in the bedroom of the home in which the two people resided.
The SIU has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to examine the killing.
Nova Scotia RCMP Shoot and Kill Darrell Augustine (37), Sipekne’katik First Nation Man (January 13, 2026)
Nova Scotia RCMP shot and killed Darrell Leo Thomas Augustine, a 37-year-old man from the Sipekne’katik First Nation, on the morning of January 13, 2026. Mr. Augustine has been identified publicly by his family. Mr. Augustine was a father of three children.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) reports that Sipekne’katik RCMP and East Hants District RCMP responded to a call at 8:35 AM regarding a man allegedly having a firearm who was threatening people inside a home on Church Street in Sipekne’katik. The man had reportedly left in a car.
At around 9:00 AM, police issued an alert that a man, believed to be the person in question, was driving a blue Honda Civic and was headed northbound on Highway 236 in the area of Stanley, NS, and Clarksville. SIRT reports that officers found the man and deflated the car’s tires with a spike belt. The car reportedly left Highway 236 near the intersection with Highway 202.
Police fired multiple shots, striking Darrell Augustine. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family says that Mr. Augustine was a seasonal fisherman who exercised his inherent Treaty rights and had been subject to “run ins with the DFO” (Fisheries and Oceans Canada).
Niagara Regional Police Service Shoot and Kill Man (26) in Welland, Ontario (December 13, 2025)
Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers shot and killed a 26-year-old man in Welland, Ontario, on the evening of December 13, 2025. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reports that NRPS tactical officers were deployed at about 9:15 PM to a residence in the area of Ontario Road and King Street to assist in the arrest of a man wanted by Peel Regional Police regarding an alleged domestic-related incident involving a firearm that occurred in Mississauga on December 12. Police claim that there was an exchange of gunfire between police and the man. Police deployed gas into the home and the man exited. Police claim there was another exchange of gunfire and the man was struck. EMS provided medical care and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. One officer was reportedly struck by gunfire, taken to hospital, and released.

Sudbury Police Shoot and Kill Man (December 5, 2025)
A Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) officer shot and killed a man on the morning of December 5, 2025. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reports that GSPS officers were deployed to the area of Clinton Avenue and Queen Street in the Flour Mill neighborhood to investigate a report of a break and enter in progress at approximately 5:30 AM. Upon arrival, officers reportedly encountered a man with an axe. Police claim the man made contact with one of the police cruisers with the axe. One officer shot the man. The victim was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police claims have not been independently confirmed publicly.
The SIU has assigned four investigators and three forensic investigators to examine the killing. One subject official and two witness officials have been designated.
Man Tased, Killed in Arrest by Calgary Police During Mental Health Call (November 23, 2025)
A man in his forties was killed during in an arrest by Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers during a mental health call on November 23, 2025. The man was reportedly tackled and tased by police.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) reports that at around 3:59 PM, police received a forwarded call from EMS from a caller regarding her adult son, who she said had a mental health condition. Paramedics were reportedly concerned about safety during a mental health call they were responding to at the address.
CPS officers responded around 4:40 PM to a residence in the 3900 block of 30 Avenue southeast, in the community of Dover. One officer reportedly spoke to the mother, who indicated that she wanted her son to be transported to hospital. A second officer allegedly spoke to a man inside the home to try to convince him to go to hospital with EMS. Two other officers joined them inside the home.
Police claim that at 4:43 PM, the man stood up and an attempt by an officer to place a hand on his arm was unsuccessful. The officer tackled the man, and two other officers jumped in. Officers used their conducted energy weapons (tasers) on him multiple times. Police then moved the man into a sitting position and noticed he had stopped breathing at 4:46 PM.
EMS transported the man to hospital at 5:30 PM. He was pronounced dead at 6:27 PM.
Powerview, Manitoba, RCMP Shoot and Kill Man (29) in Sagkeeng First Nation (November 18, 2025)
A Powerview, Manitoba RCMP officer shot and killed a 29-year-old man in Sagkeeng First Nation, on November 18, 2025. The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) reports that Powerview RCMP received a report of a man armed with an edged weapon, but the call disconnected. Officers reportedly traced the call to a residence in Sagkeeng. They went to the residence around 6:38 AM and located a man who was allegedly armed. Around 7:20 AM, an officer shot the man, who was transported by ambulance to Pine Falls Hospital, where he died.
Ontario Provincial Police Strike and Kill Woman (19) with Police Vehicle in Essex, Ontario (November 2, 2025)
An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer from the Essex County Detachment struck and killed a 19-year-old woman with a police vehicle in the early morning of November 2, 2025. It is reported that the officer was driving on County Road 20 near Iler Street in Essex at approximately 4:25 AM at the time they struck the woman, who was a pedestrian. She was transported to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
