What actually is WeJam?

WeJam is a fully interactive group activity that takes place in a music studio in Camden Town, London. During a session you will be guided by your record producer to learn and perform classic songs as a band using real musical instruments. No previous musical experience is necessary.

Each participant chooses their instrument and is assigned a tablet device. Beginners are shown colour coded graphics on screen, guiding them which notes to play. More experienced musicians can choose to see traditional notation or chord symbols instead. Our songwriters have developed simplified versions of popular tunes so you only play one note at a time. Successfully playing these parts unlocks the more complicated original note combinations, so everyone sounds like a rockstar. The difficulty level can also be increased if you find it too easy.

Do I need musical experience to do WeJam?

No. No matter your age or ability you can jam along to your favourite songs. Using a colour coded system, complete beginners can easily see which note to play and when to play it. The session leader is on hand to help if you get stuck. WeJam also caters to experienced musicians who can play in freestyle mode or try an unfamiliar instrument.

How many people can play at WeJam?

There are 6 instruments plus mics for singers, so groups of up to 10 can come to the studio: in a band of 10, four of you sing at any one time and everyone swaps around during the session. For groups of 11 or more we run private events and team sessions, and much larger groups can be accommodated.

How long is a WeJam session?

Standard sessions are 90 minutes. Longer sessions can be arranged by contacting the team. Please arrive just before your session starts as the slot cannot be extended beyond the time booked.

Can we play more than one instrument?

For your first session we recommend picking one instrument and sticking with it. However if you and your band members get the hang of it quickly, it is fine to swap halfway through.

How many songs will we perform?

Most people spend the session perfecting eight or nine songs, but it is possible to try more than that if you are on a roll.

What songs can I play at WeJam?

WeJam has over 75 classic pop and rock tracks available, from 1960s classics to recent chart hits. Popular choices include Mr. Brightside, Don't Stop Me Now, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Sweet Caroline, and Mamma Mia. The catalogue is growing regularly. Where is WeJam located?

WeJam is located in a secret underground studio beneath Camden Guitars in the heart of Camden Town, London. The full address is 23 Chalk Farm Road, London, NW1 8AG. The nearest tube stations are Chalk Farm and Camden Town, both on the Northern line. WeJam can also set up pop-up events at external venues almost anywhere.

Can WeJam cater for private events?

Yes, WeJam regularly hosts private events including corporate team building, birthday parties, hen and stag dos, and bar and bat mitzvahs. Pop-up events can be set up at a venue of your choosing. There are minimum group size requirements, so please contact the team to discuss.

Will experienced musicians find WeJam too easy?

No. Experienced musicians can play in freestyle mode where the computer assistance is turned off and you jam along independently. Most experienced players also find it fun and challenging to try an instrument they are less familiar with.

What instruments can I play at WeJam?

WeJam offers drums, keyboards and synths, and keytars which are used in place of guitars. Experienced guitarists and bass players are welcome to bring their own guitar or bass along and plug in. Cables are provided, players can experiment with WeJam's digital effects, and simple chord symbols are shown on screen as you play.

Do we have to sing at WeJam?

Singing is optional. For those who prefer not to sing, WeJam has high quality vocal backing tracks that you play along to. This is a bit like the opposite of karaoke.

Is there an age limit for WeJam?

WeJam is suitable for all ages. Children are welcome but we recommend they are over the age of 8. Children's parties are welcome but the group must include at least one person over 18.

How much does WeJam cost?

Do I get a recording of my WeJam session?

Yes, every group receives recordings of their performance after the session. You can listen back and share your tracks with friends and family as a musical souvenir of the experience.
