My advice to the Prime Minister: find the funding to make these buildings safe, make them saleable, then chase those who are actually responsible.

“We’re four years on from Grenfell and we’ve got leaseholders… having to pay out money they can’t afford.” - Tory MP and co-chair of the APPG on leasehold reform @PBottomleyMP says “the govt needs to face up to the responsibility” over the continuing cladding crisis #Newsnight

Last night on @BBCNewsnight. Responsibility for removing cladding lies everywhere apart from with the residential leaseholders. My advice to the Government: bail out these people trapped in unsafe apartments then make the arrangements to chase those who 𝘢𝘳𝘦 responsible.

Too many leaseholders have been living with the consequences of the fire safety mistakes of others. They are the only ones being expected to pay the billions needed to remediate these dangerous issues with no option to sue those responsible. Parliament must redress injustice.

"This is probably the worst housing crisis since the Blitz. At least during the Blitz, when there weren't planes overhead, you could sleep soundly at night. Leaseholders are not responsible for remediation work. They do not own a brick." @BBCNewsnight #Leasehold #Cladding

The self-employed and small businesses across the country will be the driving force for our recovery. If we continue to ignore them and not be there when they need us, they will not be there when we need them. @ExcludedUK

As he himself admits @RishiSunak does not recognise the suffering of 3 million people excluded from govt support. The self-employed & small business sector make up 99% of the business population. Continuing to ignore these people is cruel and economically illiterate. @Jamie4North

The Government needs to understand the urgency and equity in making homes safe and saleable. No longer can leaseholders be left imprisoned in unsafe buildings. @NLC_2019 @LKPleasehold @ukcag @EOCS_Official

Those individuals who desire to cause trouble during and following peaceful vigils and protests should learn from the life and the dedication of police officer Keith Palmer, who died in defence of our democracy on this day in 2017. Four years on, we remember him and his actions.

Those in the events industry, the freelance sector which has been a growing part of our economy over the past 20 years, and who have started new businesses, have been hung out to dry in receiving no support. We have a duty to do more for them. The @ExcludedUK should be included.

For the forty five years I have been here, I have campaigned in support of tenants and leaseholders in tower blocks. There are 6 million of them, at least 1 million affected by cladding issues and many more affected by lease extention costs. Government inaction is not acceptable.

Hundreds of thousands of leaseholders face ruinous costs if they are forced to pay for the mistakes of others. Now, Parliament must ensure the Government indemnifies leaseholders from the costs. Read my full article linked below: sirpeterbottomley.com/daily-mail-04-…

An open letter to the Government: act now to support leaseholders living in high-rise private buildings facing substantial retrospective costs to replace unsafe cladding. No leaseholder should suffer costs well beyond their ability to pay. @thesundaytimes thetimes.co.uk/article/no-10-…

I welcome the words of @michaelgove: 'Cladding victims shouldn't pay a penny'. We can all agree that leaseholders should not pay for cladding removal. The one group who are not responsible are the leaseholders who do not own a single brick in the building.
