A major summer heat wave arrives Friday, bringing dangerous 95-105°F+ highs to the Intermountain West & Plains. Warm nights mean zero relief, leading to extreme HeatRisk. Protect yourself & livestock: hydrate & never leave kids/pets in cars.
The first widespread significant heat wave of summer across the Intermountain West and Plains is expected to develop on Friday and then expand through early next week. Widespread high temperatures of 95-105 degrees are expected, with local maxima above 110 degrees possible. This could produce numerous daily high, and a few monthly to all time, temperature records.

Extremely hot daytime highs combined with potentially record-warm lows will result in increasing heat stress, leading to widespread major to locally extreme HeatRisk. This heat will quickly become dangerous to anyone without adequate cooling or hydration.

In the Plains, this heat will be especially dangerous as normal to below-normal June temperatures have limited heat acclimation. Remember to protect yourself by limiting outdoor activity, keeping hydrated, and ensuring access to A/C or cooling centers. Never leave children or animals unattended in vehicles, and make sure outdoor pets and livestock have access to water.
