Not that thought comes easily to you, as you oscillate between the painful light of wakefulness and the inviting dark of unconsciousness. What were you doing before you chose a table to lay upon, of all things? ... What made you fall unconscious to begin with? You can't remember. Tables notwithstanding, the aching, pulsating thing in the side of your neck doesn't feel familiar at all. Of that, you're certain.
It's then that you rouse further. A bright-eyed, eager human watches you past goggles that barely veil their sharp attention and keen curiosity, perched at the end of the table. They smile. Your limbs feel unresponsive, like lead. You're sore. Very sore.
"Good morning to you. You're feisty when you're asleep, did you know? Oh, but be careful! We did ONLY what we absolutely had to do to stabilize your condition. You understand. Interdimensional transit isn't easy on a person, and now that you have an extra soul..."
... For the moment, the agony is too much, and you can't comprehend what they're saying. You fall unconscious once more. But the pain in your neck continues to haunt your subconscious, as what should be the isolation of empty slumber feels just as crowded. You're plunged into nightmares of bestial terror and panic, these dreams not like any you've had before.

Welcome to Karteria! Karteria is a sex-friendly, panfandom fantasy roleplay game that takes place in the art deco city of Karteria, on the island of Orexis located in the Isles of Pathos. Characters have been summoned from their homeworld by a group known as Patho-Gen, who seek the aid of these otherworldly visitors in forestalling, avoiding, or even halting worldwide apocalyptic conditions—before it's too late. Choices made by Player Characters will determine the fate of the island of Orexis, the Isles of Pathos, and the world beyond it.
Karteria is a monster transformation game that deals with psychological & body horror, the exploration of the self, and choices that impact the fate of the world. It is set in a mid-apocalyptic, inhospitable setting that demands swift action to an overarching, long-term plot, lest the world teeter into utter ruin. Characters are fitted with a device in their neck that houses what is called a Natural Soul that lends them incredible powers—ones that grow with use and time.
On one hand, Natural Souls permit characters to Shift into a powerful form, and they're safeguarded from the arcane radiation that would otherwise see their demise. These Shifted forms can be tapped into immediately, and are animalistic, full of tentacles, teeth, scales, fur, and so much more!
But the more characters tap into their Natural Soul, the more they may grapple with who they are, and with what the bestial soul commands of their impulses. And the more time that passes, the more these Natural Souls will corrupt their very being, making a great many traits become permanent—but what Patho-Gen doesn't anticipate is how these characters will pair bond with one another in the midst of it all, and the kind of power that comes from the connections they foster. And all around them, a world rife with trouble and corruption hurdles toward certain demise—unless the Augmented can help them. How helpful and hurtful the setting is to them is entirely dependent on character choices and actions. Karterians and Patho-Gen hope their saviors will hop to it, harness their monster powers, and get to saving the world sometime soon!
