Java Byte compare() method

The compare() method of Java Byte class compares the two specified byte values.

Syntax:

Parameters:

The parameters 'x' and 'y' represent the first and second byte value to be compared.

Return Value

This method returns an integer value.

It returns zero, if both the parameters are equal(x==y).
It returns positive one, if x is greater than y(x>y).
It returns negative one, if x if smaller than y(x<y).

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        byte byte1=3;
        byte byte2=67;
        int val=Byte.compare(byte1,byte2);
        if(val==0){
            System.out.println(byte1+" and "+byte2+" values are equal.");
        }
        else if(val>0){
            System.out.println(byte1+" is greater than "+byte2+" .");
        }
        else{
            System.out.println(byte2+" is greater than "+byte1+" .");
        }
    }
}

67 is greater than 3 .

        Byte byte1=18;
        Scanner scanner=new Scanner(System.in);
        System.out.print("Enter your age : ");
        byte byte2=scanner.nextByte();
        int val=Byte.compare(byte1,byte2);
        if (val<0){
            System.out.println("Congratulations! You are an adult. Now you can vote.");
        }
        else {
            int byte3=byte1-byte2;
            System.out.println("Oops! You are not an adult. You can vote after "+ byte3+" years.");
        }
    }
}

Output:

Enter your age : 12
Oops! You are not an adult. You can vote after 6 years.

}
