Java Math.cos() method

The java.lang.Math.cos() is used to return the trigonometric cosine of an angle. This method returns value between -1 to 1.

Syntax

Parameter

Return

If the argument is positive or negative number, this method will return the Cosine value.
If the argument is NaN or infinity, this method will return NaN.

Example 1

public class CosExample1
{
    public static void main(String[] args) 
    {
        double a = 60;
        // converting values to radians
        double b = Math.toRadians(a);
        System.out.println(Math.cos(b));
    }
}

Output:

0.5000000000000001

Example 2

public class CosExample2
{
    public static void main(String[] args) 
    {
        double a = 0.0;
        double b = Math.toRadians(a);
        System.out.println(Math.cos(b));
    }
}

Output:

1.0

Example 3

public class CosExample3
{
    public static void main(String[] args) 
    {
        double a = 1.0/0;
        // converting values to radians
        double b = Math.toRadians(a);
        System.out.println(Math.cos(b));
    }
}

Output:

NaN

Example 4

public class CosExample4
{
    public static void main(String[] args) 
    {
        double a = Double.MAX_VALUE;
        double b = Math.toRadians(a);
        System.out.println(Math.cos(b));
    }
}

Output:

0.37127941669980136
