Duke Davidson Joke

Duke plays Davidson in college basketball tonight. While it is one of the best opportunities for the country to see Stephen Curry, who is probably the best player in the United States right now.

Image

But, it is also an opportunity for me to share a humorous story that my college roommate told me when he was talking to one of his friends, about the friends little brother who was being recruited by Davidson.

Roommate:So where is your brother going to go to school?

Buddy:Davidson

Roommate:Davidson, I have heard of it, but is it a good school?

Buddy: Oh yea man, they say, Davidson is the Duke of the south.

Google Davidson if you dont get it

LSU Alabama is not all

Though, it is an awesome game. However, I would like to kick CBS in the gonads, because the return of Nick Saban to the Bayou with the #1 team in the nation deserves an 8 PM kickoff, not 3:30. How are the Bayou Bengals fans going to have the chance to get them selves half in the bag?

But, there is more, Oklahoma State at Texas Tech screams trap game, any time USC is playing is an opportunity to giggle with glee if the Trojans manage to lose. Heck, Ga Tech vs UNC excites me.

This has been a fun college football season, there has not been a weekend so far that was a waste, though the Purdue Oregon game did save one of those Saturdays.

Oregon will slam the door shut tonight

This could be one of the final chances for Senator Clinton to get out in front of an audience of supporters and give a victory speech, as the fiasco that the Democratic Party calls Primary season, winds its way towards Kentucky and Oregon. And yes, Senator Clinton can still finagle a way to sneak into the presidential nomination, but unless you really count Puerto Rico as a contest, Kentucky could be her last confetti and balloon moment until the whole carnival gets to Denver.

The reason for this is after probably getting a comfortable 10 to 15 point win in the Bluegrass state, the voters of Oregon will start the "Na Na Na" singing to Senator Clinton, giving Senator Obama a comfortable win in one of the liberalist states on the map. And while she will win Puerto Rico, he will end up getting Montana and Idaho, or Montana and a Dakota, or whatever two Big Sky states that are left to vote on June 5th and the math will still show her behind. Plus really, when was the last time Senator Clinton had 80,000 people showing up to see her at a rally?

Image

Though she did get a tour of Makers Mark, which is something I would sure like to do someday.

On a side note, if this was a discussion about college football instead of politics, a game between the University of Kentucky and either of the big time football schools in Oregon would be an exciting one.

Well, It is West Virginia...

Now, I am not trying to be insulting, though I am sure this post is going to come out that way to some folks, but West Virginia is not a bell weather state when it comes to the national election in November.

A few thoughts on the Mountaineer state. Back when I was in high school, before I had even taken the SATs seriously, I got a good middling number. Now, I had not taken any sort of prep courses, nor had I even gotten a good nights sleep before test one. Yet, when I applied to all my colleges over the summer, the University of West Virginia was the first school to send me an acceptance letter. Before my senior year even started. Ask any kid in the northeast if you know of a good safety school that is not an instate school and they will say West Virginia.

And of course, there is the fact that Country Roads by John "freaking" Denver is one of the songs that the state is best known for. Good song, but still.

And finally, it seems that John Edwards is going to get 6 or 7 % of the vote, even though he has suspended his campaign since the time the air was cold here in Philly. What that tells me is 2 things. One, there must be some really dedicated Edwards supporters, or there is a small sect of folks that will vote democratic, but they will only vote for the Democratic white guy.

Though, lets remember, even though Hillary is winning now by about 40%, she is only going to get a net of 10 delegates tonight.

Hillary Will Work for Food

And when I say food, I mean money for votes. It is now 10:50, and my twitter prediction is coming quite true, though it is a hell of a lot closer then I thought it would be. Indiana is still too close to call, though I still do not see how Obama can win, unless Purdue University had record turnouts.

So, as we listen to Senator Clinton doing a fine job of now semi applying for the chance to take the second spot on the Obama Presidential Ticket, I have to wonder when she and Bubba will actually go away. When the heartlands of Indiana could not deliver a strong victory for you before the 11:00 news, you know you really kinda are cooked as a candidate.

Though, Senator Clinton is still asking for the loot, because Lexington, Louisville and Portland are going to be darned expensive to run negative campaign ads in.

On a side note, there goes Evan Bayh's hopes for VP

Big Brown Bleh Weekend

I made a slight mistake this weekend. I actually looked forward to something. In my past, I have found that looking forward to something small usually causes something to go awry. Lets look at the Super Bowl, when dammit I was rooting for the Patriots.

The Derby is something I usually do well on. In fact, the last 5 years, I have been spot on with the winner, though this year I was a tad off. Danged Pyro! But, also, I Twinspires let me down by allowing the site to go down 45 minutes before the Derby actually began.

I was all for Pyro and Visionaire, though I also put a sprinkle of money down for Eight Belles, because she was the only Filly, and Mrs Duck could be a bit of a sports fan. The race itself, up until the end was a tad dull, Big Brown was the class of the field, which is evidenced by the fact that none of the Derby horses are going to actually decide run against him in the Preakness. So overall, the race was not exciting.

Well, exciting in the fact that My Old Kentucky home was still an Extreme Home Makeover moment, and the race was the fastest 2 minutes in sports. Until...

Eight Belles pulled up after the finish. With hindsight being 20/20, the poor girl did seem to be laboring a bit at the end, though she still cleared all the other nags by a good 2 or 3 furlongs. So, to see Big Brown throw his jockey, you know it was not a good thing, because he was spooked by the falling of Eight Belles. My first words were of course, Oh Fuck. To see the black beauty laboring on the dirt, breathing heavily, obviously in distress, you knew the news would not be good. To see not one but two ambulances coming out to shield the crowd, the news just got worse.

There were a few idiots in the aftermath and the celebration. One, whoever is the CEO of Yum Brands. If they are busy putting a horse down about 50 feet away from you, you do not say what a great day it was with a big ass goofy smile on your face. #2 is the speechwriter for the Governor of Kentucky. One would think that you would be a voice for one of the 50 states in the Union, you may wanna run up and scribble something down for the Governor, just to say how sorry you were, etc etc. Finally, Rick Dutrow. I get the feeling that the rest of the horse racing community does not like you that much already, to begrudingly, finally say you felt a tad bit sorry for the owners of Eight Belles, who really almost beat your horse, is a tad slow.

For once, I may not be rooting for a Triple Crown.

Trevor is the ImmelMan

There are still 5 holes to play, but Trevor Immelman is going to win the Masters. He has a six stroke lead as we speak with 5 holes to play and all he has to do is keep playing the same steady way he has played all day. One of my first signs of spring has been one of the most boringest days ever.

No one has made a run, in fact, everyone has gone backwards. Even Tiger Woods has been close to awful today. Two of the best rounds were posted by Heath Slocum and Miguel Jiminez, and these two were so far back that they needed to shoot 63s to have a shot.

Augusta National is still a breathtakingly beautiful course. The Magnolia's and the warm looking sun still does something that makes the viewer feel spring and warmth. I just wish I did not need to be distracted by the trees to actually find something exciting in this.

Pandering for charity -Lacey Chabert

I have noticed over the last few weeks, that my 50 states/50 hotties Mississippi post has been a very popular one. I think it must be because Lacey Chabert is still a popular actress, at least too look at. So, I had a goofy idea to use that power.

So, for every click I get on this post until Midnight, Monday, March 31st, I will make a nickel donation to Habitat for Humanity, which is still doing excellent work down in the ravaged Gulf Coast region. I started out a nickel, since I really do not know how many hits I will get, so if I under estimated, I will increase the amount to make it at least a worthwhile donation.

Its a Philanthropic experiment.

Spitzer? I dont even know her!

Yes an old joke, sue me, it still makes me chuckle.

Ahh Elliot Spitzer, Governor of New York and former high powered district attorney, should be lamenting the those in glass houses parable right about now. A man that had one of his feathers as being taking down a couple of New York escort services is now all tangled up in paying for an escort and taking her to Washington DC, which makes it a federal crime. Problematic would be a minor connotation.

There are a few things that strike about this whole fiasco, since truth be told I am an outsider. At least when it came to McGreevey of NJ, he was someone I had met and voted for, Spitzer is just another governor from another state I pay little attention to anymore.
1.Spitzer was done in by the people that he had prosecuted. And I do not mean the drug kingpins, mafia bosses or high class madames. I mean the rich and powerful of Wall Street. He made alot of enemies, rightly or wrongly, in the business world and affected the wallets and pocketbooks of some very powerful people. They were out to get him. The fact that the FBI may have been tipped off by a suspicious activity report or a SARS should not be lost on anyone. That is a banking thing, to try and catch people who maybe laundering money and trying to keep it just under the goverments threshold. If you don't think that for one moment that the bank he had his accounts at was one of the banks hurt by all the regulations in the trading markets that were started by Spitzer, you are underestimating the power of big business.
2.This is also another small hint that Hillary will not be the Democratic nominee, at least in my small humble opinion. Governor Spitzer would have been at least a dark horse when it comes to the position of Attorney General in a Clinton administration. He was one of her Super Delegates and also a fundraiser for her. If the Hill was to be the nominee in the summer, the powers that be that are controlled by a Republican administration would have saved it for the most opportune time. On the eve of the Mississippi primary is not a opportune time, since I could have told you 2 months ago she would have lost the Magnolia State.
Yet, it is still a bit fun to watch, like a train wreck. Plus, we get to learn that there are alot of Escort services alot closer than we all thought.

Louisville Sob Story

We are watching Extreme Home Makeover, and there are basing themselves this week in Louisville, Kentucky. I know Mrs Duck has sobbed up in the first 15 minutes and I can certainly say that when they played the Call to the Post, since it is Louisville, home of the Kentucky Derby, I felt a ball of sob crawl up into my throat.
There is still a half hour to go on TiVo, sobfest to come.

Screw the Polls

Bond, come in Bond

No 8:00 surprises, Illinois, NJ and the Okies fall in line

For the people that everyone figured they would fall in line for, though while McCain has control on NJ on the red side, it must be so so too close to call on the blue side, since there is silence.

Oh and Romney won Massachusetts. If he lost, it would have truly been the Apocalypse.

But, who gives a crap, I may be freaking out over the traction the Moonshine Mike is getting down south.

*8:15*
Tennessee for Clinton. Again not a shock, Harold Ford could not win a Senate seat there for petes sake

*8:30 update*
Clinton and Huckabee win in Arkansas. All is right with the world

As of 7:53

It was my first What the Fuck moment. With 2% of the precincts counted so far, Mike "Moonshine" Huckabee is leading in Georgia!

Georgia to Obama

And on another note, it turns out today is Tuesday

Palmetto Blues

It is not exactly a sad thing when I say blues, its more of the dominating color for the Democratic Party. Barack Obama won last night as expected in South Carolina, but really the other big story is the fact that Hillary Clinton not only lost the black vote in the state, but also lost the white vote by a percentage or 2 to John Edwards. If she is going to continue to be the strong front running candidate that her machine has in place, she will have to find a way to not have the historionics of her husband drive away voters.

Obama's speech last night was fantastic, he is able to saddle the electricity of a win and let it come out in his words to supporters when he wins. Of course, when looking at his policies, it will take time to dig deeper. Mrs Duck does not feel comfortable with his health plan in comparison to Hillary Clinton's plan. I actually have to do more research, since I maybe a tad jaded as a political watcher. It seems all candidates, even the ones I support, will just say what we do want them to say.

Super Duper Tuesday, as the media has decided to tab it, could be a major tipping point, or it could just send the Democrats into more of a mess. If Clinton and Obama take most of the big states, lets say splitting up California & New York, and Edwards steals a small state or two, or at least has a good enough showing to take enough delegates away to keep either one of the top 2 from getting a good stranglehold on the nomination, the race will spiral into more of a mess. Plus, the one true thing that does make me more nervous is the fact that there are about 10 days until the Super Tuesday. Plenty of time to have the candidates make some sort of slip up that will just make things worse when it comes to November.

The Republicans are slopping around Florida, where it will be McCain, Romney or even possibly Rudy, though that ship is sinking fast. Not that I see anyone sending Captain 9/11 a life raft anytime soon.

S.B. Hotties Day 1

See, I am being smart now, I am avoiding mentioning the Super Bowl, oh crap nevermind. Anyway, since we will be beaten to a pulp by the hype and setup for next weeks game, I figured I would jump on the bandwagon in a fun way. Cheerleaders of course.

But, I am at a slight disadvantage, since the New York Giants do not actually have cheerleaders. So, our competition coming up will be the New England Cheerleaders vs the rest of the NFC. Which is sort of like the NFL season that is just passing, since it seemed like it was the Patriots vs the rest of the NFL. Today its Briana of New England against an anonymous Tampa Bay Buccaneer Girl. Please enjoy and if you want, do vote.

Briana!

Debate in the Palmetto State

You remember how bored I was during the Nevada debate. How it was slow and dull and kind of just hit or miss with the messages that the candidates wanted to say? Please be sure to tune into CNN in Myrtle Beach South Carolina tonight. Its about 8:30, and there have been two or three "oh no he or she didnt moments"

Duck Soup Bowl 07 #2-Vehicle Day

I realized the other reason that I do not get to talk about all 32 bowl games every year, even though in my heart of hearts I mean too. These Holidays just wear the hell out of me! Oh well, on to the football.

Three more games on tap for today, with the Meineke Car Care Bowl, the Liberty Bowl and the Alamo Bowl.
Down in Charlotte, it will be Connecticut vs Wake Forest in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. One of the worst names for a bowl game by the way. Its an interesting meeting between 2 schools that have a much better tradition in basketball than football. Wake Forest still has an excellent defense and an offense that just enough to win a game, while Connecticut is a surprise of the Big East. Connecticut also features Tvyon Branch, who had two 95 yard kickoff returns for touchdowns this season, though they also had a very controversial win over Temple, that probably kept the Owls from being bowl eligible this year.

Off to Memphis next as the Knights of UCF face the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. Mississippi State is another team with an excellent defense and an offense that makes you wonder how they score any actual points all year. Miss State has another small part of history, as coach Sylvester Croom is the first African American head coach at an Southeastern Conference school. On the flip side, Central Florida has one of the best players in the country that you have never heard of in Kevin Smith. Smith is the leading rusher this season in all of NCAA, as well as the leading Scorer in the country. He is also an amazing game away (about 190 yards) of breaking Barry Sanders single season rushing record, though honestly I do not think it will happen against the Bulldogs strong front line. Ok, Ok, Michael has heard of him, I am not sure about the rest of you.

In an interesting twist, both of the first two games today are sponsored by car care/repair shop establishments, in Meineke and AutoZone. If I was a freak, I would say that was a sign directed at me and my crispy car.

Finally, its tha Alamo Bowl, usually one of the best matchups of the entire bowl season, down in San Antonio. Tex and the Cat Wrangler are off to this game today, and while they certainly will be pulling for Penn State as they play Texas A&M, they would have gone to this game is it was Indiana vs Baylor, just because there are not too many big time sporting events that wander there way to San Antonio, unless you like the NBA (yick). Penn State is Penn State, which means there offense is explosive or sputtering, based on the week. Anthony Morelli, the Penn State QB, kinda of really sucks, but his best wide receiver, Derrick Williams, is a pleasure to watch every time he touches the ball. On the Aggie side of the ball, Texas A&M got there coach fired this season, so I would say for sure it was a down year in College Station. Though former Coach Francione did not help himself in the keeping your job department, by sending out private newsletters to boosters, that allegedly contained inside information that would help out the newsletter reader if they were the betting kind of guy.

Oh and to finish up the driving theme of today, this years Alamo Bowl is sponsored in part by Valero.

I did so poorly on my last predictions, I am not going to bother this time, so lets bring on the cheerleaders!
