Bono Has Spinal Surgery!

U2’s Angel Stadium shows could get postponed  (this is my concert...)

ImageBono has undergone emergency spinal surgery in Munich after injuring himself during preparation for the next North American leg ofU2’s 360 Tour, according to Reuters and BBC News.
The singer-activist, who just turned 50, is expected to remain at a specialist neurosurgery clinic in Germany for a number of days before flying home to Ireland for further recuperation.
Of course, this casts serious doubts on whether Bono and the band will be ready for its June 6-7 shows at Angel Stadium. Already the June 3 launch in Salt Lake City has been postponed. Were he back in action in time, the Anaheim dates would now kick off the tour — though I wouldn’t bank on that. Even if he were ready to perform again in two weeks, would it really be advisable? Could he possibly be at his strongest again? Postponing seems the smartest move.
After that, U2 is slated to play Denver on June 12, Oakland on June 16 and Seattle on June 20. The British press is also wondering if Bono will be recovered enough to face a headlining appearance at the annual Glastonbury festival on June 25.
U2 manager Paul McGuinness advises fans to monitor U2’s website for the latest updates. “We will make plans to reinstate the dates as soon as possible,” he said of the potential for postponements, adding that it was “unfortunate that we’re inconveniencing fans” and that it was causing disruption to the band’s 400-strong crew.

Please get better, Bono!  We (I) love you!

LOVE IT!

Do any of you remember this songby Dr. Hook?  Its a fun one!

Well we are big rock singers, we've got golden fingers
And we're loved everywhere we go
We sing about beauty and we sing about truth
At ten thousand dollars a show
We take all kind of pills to give us all kind of thrills
But the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll get you when you get your picture

I ALMOST FORGOT BONO'S BIRTHDAY!

Image
Because my mind has been on this today, I forgot that it was the birthday of one of my favorite people of all time.

Happy Birthday, Bono!

for an interesting post on Bono that talks about why some people don't like him (how could that be?) check out Jeff's blog, Imagine Echoes.

Lucianno Pavarotti

This will be the first and probably the last time I have had opera on this blog - but someone with this amount of talent transcends genre. Even more shocking - I didn't think I'd ever have Michael Bolton on here either.

To quote Bono:

"SOME CAN SING OPERA; LUCIANO PAVAROTTI WAS AN OPERA"

He will be missed. Its a sad day in music.

Bono and the G8 - "Politics is the art of the possible"

I know, I know....some of you are tired of hearing about him, but I will never tire of writing about him because I stand behind him 100% in what he's doing. I believe he's sincere, that his compassion is genuine. He HAS made a difference by raising money to help fight AIDS in Africa and feed some of the hungry there, that can't be denied because there are facts to back it up.

I also love the music - not just the man. I think u2 is one of the greatest bands for all time and its pretty amazing that after 31 years, the original guys are still together. Its even more amazing that you don't hear scandals involving any one of them - no illegal or immoral activities splashed all over the gossip magazines.

Some people say he's arrogant, maybe he is, but so what? He's not out for his own gain, he's only agenda is to provide aid for those who need it and he recognizes that some of us have more than we need while others don't have enough to survive.

Do you like Bono, dislike him or have no opinion either way?

Here's a clip of the CNN interview with Bono and Bob Geldoff, this is what I am talking about:

Pet Shop Boys Blast Bono

Image
I read this over at U2 News:

Neil Tennant told the Daily Mirror: "I've always been against the ideas of rock stars lecturing people as if they know something the rest of us don't - it looks arrogant.

"It's not as if they have a private source of information. To state the obvious as if you are the only person that knows it is intellectually weak. Like Bono - he uses his celebrity, but in doing so he increases his celebrity. I'm never totally convinced that the rest of U2 feel comfortable with that."
Well, I do believe Neil has a point about making political statements, it bothers me when celebrities use their fame to sway voters that are not intelligent enough to think beyond "well Bruce Springsteen says I should vote for so and so, so I will" (you know I love Bruce, this is just the first example I thought of).

BUT.... What Bono does is TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Bono is not a political figure. He will sit down with any world leader in any country and have the same conversation with each of them - its about brining awareness to poverty and AIDS in Africa (mostly) and that is not a political issue.

Sure, he uses his celebrity to get attention for this but what's wrong with that? I think it's a great use of fame. Rather than partying at all the famous nightclubs, getting your face splashed across People for your latest arrest, addiction or affair, why not bring attention to suffering? He's made a HUGE difference by bringing awareness and raising funds to save lives. I can't see anything wrong with that!

So, note to Neil Tennant - I disagree with you.

(Who are The Pet Shop Boys anyhow? Aren't they a disco band from the 80's?)

The 80's Nut Newsletter

I am going to start a few new things this year. I know most of you stay up to date on all this related to music, but one source of info I ALWAYS find something "new" on is Martin's "The 80's Nut Newsletter". Of course you can subcribe to it yourself and get all the scoop, but I will put some highlights that interest me here each week starting right NOW:

ImageQueen guitarist Brian May recently confirmed on his Web site that a
film about Freddie Mercury is in the early stages. Rumors claim that
Johnny Depp is in the running for the part. Depp was supposedly in
"in the running" to play the lead in an upcoming Ozzy Osbourne biopic.Image

Daryl Hall and John Oates' rendition of "It Came Upon A Midnight
Clear" has taken the #1 spot on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart.
(personal note about me and Daryl - did you know he used to be my boyfriend back in the 80's???? No? Well, you're not alone, he never knew either but I sure did love him :)

David Bowie recently told New York magazine, "I'm fed up with the
industry and I've been fed up for quite some time. I'm taking a year
off -- no touring, no albums."

Aretha Franklin has been recording a new studio album with many
featured guests. Aretha: A Woman Falling Out Of Love will be released
in the first quarter of 2007 via her Aretha's Records label. Franklin
co-produced and co-wrote many of the tracks.

Bono will be given an honorary knighthood early next year the British
ambassador to Ireland, David Reddaway. Because he is an Irish citizen
and not British, he will not be entitled to use the title "Sir." The
singer was given a similar honor in France in 2003, Legion D'Honneur.

The Flaming Lips will be performing live on the Oklahoma Centennial
Birthday Float at this year's Rose Parade on Jan. 1st.

I am really glad eventually Bono decided to use a hair stylist.

I can barely wait till November 2! And I have good seats!!!
