DVD Giveaway: RUSH 2112 & Moving Pictures

ImageImage
I have a treat for Rush fans! I just received a copy of the new DVD release from Rush and would like to pass it on to one of you. If you're interested leave me a comment and I will draw a name next week on Wednesday.

Here is a description:

The latest addition to the acclaimed & award winning Classic Albums series tells the story behind the making of two legendary
albums from Rush. 2112 was the album that saw Rush break through to major chart success, going to No.1 in their native Canada
and Top 75 in the USA where it would eventually be certified triple platinum. Moving Pictures opened them to a mass audience for
the first time and remains the biggest selling album of their career. It also went to No.1 in Canada and went quadruple platinum
there while hitting No.3 in both the UK and USA. Rush members Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart talk us through the
making of the albums, together with original producer Terry Brown via interviews, demonstrations, archive videos and use
of the original multi-track tapes.
BONUS FEATURES
Over 50 minutes of additional interviews, archive footage and new demonstrations not included in the broadcast version.
Here is a review I found on Amazon written by Greg. He gave me permission to re-write it here:

I find this DVD a worthwhile addition to my Rush collection. After recently buying remastered versions of 2112 and Moving Pictures (Eco) (Rpkg), and seeing (and buying the DVD of) the excellent documentary, Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage [Blu-ray], I questioned the wisdom of yet one more bit of Rushverse memorabilia. Turns out I still have more to learn, and I was especially interested in learning more about the connection of the story in 2112 with the Ayn Rand work, Anthem, Expanded 50th Anniversary Edition. I knew that 2112 was influenced by Rand, but was under the wrong impression about what that influence had been. That's just an example of the types of revelations on tap in this documentary.

And the guys are as low-key and approachable as ever. I said it about "Lighted Stage" and I'll say it about this Classic Albums DVD...the personalities of the Rush bandmates, and their friendship with each other, and their gonzo commitment to their musical vision, make them extremely attractive as artistic icons, even if some of their music is, let's face it, as annoying as hell. (But that doesn't apply to anything on the two albums showcased in this documentary--this is cream-of-the-crop Rush.)

ALSO: Stay tuned for a review from me on another new DVD release that is TOO GOOD to give away, I have to keep it for my collection :) (hint: another band that starts with the letter "R")

"Learn From Your Mistakes"

Image
That's one of my top five life statements and I plan to apply it to RUSH.

I missed out on the first part of their tour but God bless em, they'll be back here and will be down the street from me in less than a month. My usual problem: going alone. I have no one to go with.

My sister just informed me that she's "seen Rush several times". I don't remember ever seeing them in the past so this is my chance.

The question is - do I buy one ticket and just go alone or two tickets and try to find someone to go. Last time I did that (Roger Waters doing Dark Side of the Moon) I ended up selling my tickets at the very last minute because I wasn't feeling up to going alone.

I'll tell ya, loving rock and roll with no friends who like it SUCKS.

News on New Releases

Rush are hoping to start work on a new studio album to be released
next year. Until then, they will release Snakes & Arrows Live on
Apr. 15th and a live video from that tour will surface on DVD in late
summer or early fall.

Peter Frampton has started writing new material for his next studio
album. He expects to spend the rest of the year writing and
recording with a break during the summer and fall for a tour.

Elvis Costello and the Imposters will release their new studio album,
Momofuku, on vinyl on Apr. 22nd and CD on May 6th.

Eagle Rock Entertainment plans to release a live Ted Nugent CD
entitled Sweden Rocks on May 13th. The show was filmed during the
2006 Sweden Rock Festival and a DVD is expected on June 10th.

The Steve Miller Band will be releasing a 3-disc set, Steve Miller:
Live From Chicago, via the Coming Home Studios label in the U.K. on
June 2nd. The set includes two DVDs and an audio CD.

Rush Concert?

Image

Once again, money is keeping me from a show I really want to see. This venue is good, but lawn seats are CRAP (they are not shown here because they rarely even SELL lawn seats). You are sitting at the VERY top of the stadium on a steep slope so if you choose to stand up you can't really even dance around without falling. Reserved 3 seats are not terrible, but they aren't great. I don't know....I guess I could dish out $41.50
  • Reserved 1: $121.50
  • Reserved 2: $71.50
  • Reserved 3: $41.50
  • Lawn: $29.00Image

Snakes and Arrows

I like Rush, I really do - they are not my VERY favorite so I did not rush out and buy the new CD (no pun intended). I know a lot of Bloggers who are going to be reviewing the new CD so I thought I 'd list them all here so you can easily find the various reviews. I'll give them all a few days to get their posts up :)

I plan on purchasing it Monday (pay day).

If you have done a review on "Snakes and Arrows" let me know!

Bruce at Mindcrimes has the tour dates for Rush listed on his blog - Ticketmaster doesn't even have any LA dates listed yet but there are 3 here in So Cal and I was happy to see that they will be playing in Irvine - right by my house. Of course I have to go - but this time before I spend a ton of money on tickets I am going to make sure I have someone to go with who is willing to pay their own way (i.e. my sister)

I may end up SELLING one of my Roger Waters tickets and going alone. That sounds depressing, but it really doesn't bother me, I rather go alone than with someone who didn't like the music.

What about you....
Would you ever go to a concert alone?

an unrelated question: a lot of people hold the opinion that Neil Pert is the "best" drummer out there - what do you think?
