A Musial Message for BP "It's Not My Fault"

Hot Off the Press From Ripple Music:

JPT Scare Band - "Not My Fault" New Video Takes Aim at BP and Their Denial of Involvement in the Gulf Oil Spill Disaster

Legendary rockers, JPT Scare Band, released some of the most collectible psychedelic/acid rock of all time, and now they're about to release their first ever music video.  Banded together during the tumultuous years of the early 70’s, JPT Scare Band fused a sound equally heavy in hard rocking blues as it was tripped out in psychedelia, creating a sound so imposing that it perfectly reflected the emotions of the era.  Hailed as one of the "lost pioneers of Heavy Metal” by Classic Rock MagazineJPT Scare Band has seen a resurgence of interest by fans of 1970’s heavy fuzzed out rock.

Now, on the heels of the release of their new album, "Acid Blues is the White Man's Burden" on Ripple Music, JPT will unveil their first ever music video for the new JPT classic, "Not My Fault," a song written by JPT in the '70's but never recorded until the early 2000's.  The video makes direct use of the song's title and biting sarcast edge as it assails BP for their denial of any blame for the Gulf Oil Spill disaster.  The video is thought provoking and inflammatory, in addition to being a good 'ol rock video, with tons of never before seen footage of JPT Scare Band doing what they do best.

Released as a special event, "Not My Fault," will makes it's exclusive debut as a limited world-wide premiere on some of rock's finest websites.

If the video touches a nerve with you, including it's poignant ending, please pass it on.  Let's create a ruckus in BP's world.  The song "Not My Fault," and the album, Acid Blues is the White Man's Burden can be found at Ripple Music,www.ripple-music.com

Happy Birthday to Carlos Santana

I almost missed his birthday but luckily several other bloggers wrote about i. I just got done watching this video over at Rock and Roll Blog (a great blog to visit).

This is Santana performing at Woodstock and its INSANE how great it is. Carols shreds and Michael Shrieve (who is a baby in this - only 19!) gives one of the best drum solos I've ever seen. No kidding. Plus you gotta love the audience :) for once they show naked guys instead of naked women. I like that for a change.

For My Son:

I spent the entire day with my son in one of those situations where you sit around waiting for hours in boredom. Luckily (for him) I had my iPod, and although our tastes in music are vastly different, there are a few bands we both like.

One is Rage Against the Machine. When I mentioned to Keven that I had seen Tom Morello play once and how iincredible it was to watch him, Kev spent ten minutes explaining to me the technique Tom uses for his unrivaled sound. I loved hearing him get excited about music. Since I can't remember his exact words, I'll just use the explanation from Wikipedia:

Critically acclaimed, he is said to use the guitar in a unique and imaginative way; rather than just plucking the strings, his maneuvers include toggling between two pickups - one on and one off - while rubbing his hands on the strings over the pickups (his signature vinyl scratch effect used in "Bulls on Parade"). He also uses techniques such as rapidly hitting a pencil on the strings ("Cochise", although he now emulates the sound by "baby-slapping" the strings), scraping an Allen wrench on the strings for a whole song ("People of the Sun") and even tapping the bridge with his audio jack cable ("Testify" and occasionally on "Bullet in the Head").

So, this video is for my son, Keven (who has never looked at my blog but - hey there's a first time for everything, right?)

Songfacts Top Ten Videos

Songfacts asked their readers to pick their top ten favorite music videos.  To see which ones came out on top check here.

This is my favorite out of their selections:

"Sledgehammer" is a celebration of modern animation. Award winning animators The Brothers Quay used claymation, pixilation, and stop motion to give life to a plethora of normally inanimate objects. Never mind the technical stuff, the video is just fascinating and entertaining from beginning to end, from the model train encircling Gabriel's head, to the dancing chickens, to the singing fruit sculptures. The filming of the Gabriel stills for the video required him to lie under glass for 16 hours. The ending features Johnson and Gabriel's friends and family, the entire team of animators and a whole slew of ever-shifting furniture. It's all fascinating and fun, and impossible to look away from.

The technical stuff, of course, is important. This video has plenty to offer. In 1987 it won nine MTV Music Video awards. Nine. That record held for 21 years. I am apparently not the only person to love this video, MTV says it is the most played video in the history of the station, and is considered MTV's #1 animated video of all time."

Kinda silly but its all I got for a hot Sunday afternoon.....

2 weeks from tomorrow:

2007, Los Angeles, CA:

This man is 58 years old. I've been watching him do this live since 1981. He has not lost an ounce of passion for the music or an ounce of appreciation for his audience.
He has lost very little, if ANY, energy, and aged gracefully.

People either "get it" or they don't about Bruce. Those of us who "get it" are often asked by well meaning and sincere friends "what is it about him exactly???" All I can say is now you can read it in this book, "For You" by Lawrence Kirsch, and look for my entry on page 137. Here's what I wrote:

Bruce Springsteen is known for many things -
  • his music
  • putting on three-hour concerts full of energy, passion, and fun
  • appreciation of his fans
  • his patriotism
  • integrity in his personal life
  • his political beliefs
  • generosity
  • anti-war views

Although Bruce is often referred to as a "rock star" the label just doesn't fit him. He's a poet, a writer, a performer, a musician, but not a rock star - he rises above that stereotype.

Bruce is known for having some of the most loyal fans in rock and roll history (maybe THE most loyal fans). He has our respect because he remains true to the music, he's willing to take risks and make music he likes regardless of the commercial popularity, he doesn't compromise.

Simply put, his fans love him. We're young, old, male, female, and can be found not only in the USA, but in Canada, Europe, South America (probably even Australia!). He never disappoints any of us and our loyalty is solid. Many of us feel that we know Bruce personally because he's written the soundtracks to our lives, and because he has proved over and over that if he had the time, he'd sit down and talk to any one of us.

You won't see a light show or a fancy stage production at a Springsteen concert, what you'll see, hear and feel is pure rock and roll. The band gives their hearts and souls to every show as if it were the most important one they'll ever do.

Looking out over the audience you can pick out the longtime fans from the newbies. We're the ones in well-worn Springsteen t-shirts from tours gone by. We're the ones who know every word to every song. We're the ones who can't possibly sit down for a song unless its a ballad. We know when to lift our first in unison during certain songs and when we're expected to carry the chorus for Bruce. We may even shed a tear during "If I Should Fall Behind" or "Empty Sky".

Each of the 16**times I've seen Bruce, its been a magical night of music followed by post-concert blues. But he always comes around again, and I will always be there...in my old concert t-shirt, singing along and smiling till my face hurts.

One More Bruce Thing....

Thank you Bruce O for your comment that made me realize I may be a bit over the top about Bruce S (I deleted the post over on WFTIO) :)

Still, I have to say these two videos kick ass and are the best footage I have ever seen taken from a fan in the audience:

Found these from via Blogness at the Edge of Town, by journalist/humorist/blogger extraordinarie, Peter Chianca. Thanks again for GREAT STUFF!

What's Going On?

Marvin Gaye wrote this song about 40 years ago. I was singing it to myself today thinking about how it speaks not only of then...but of now, and then I found this video. Please watch it.

The Ocean

I was talking to someone earlier today about how great Zeppelin is and how neither of us got to see them in concert (I almost did). He mentioned the movie, "Song Remains the Same" so I had to watch some of it tonight. This is high quality footage if you have DIVX.
Here's a link to the video
