Cindy loves her iPad, but she's a basic user. If I send links in email, she never sees them. She does Facebook, but I won't touch FB with a 10-foot pole. This is the best way for her to see and keep links; when I see her today, I can open this page on DW and save the link on her iPad.

The Body is not An Apology

This blog showcases articles that deal with body positivity as it relates to bodies that are disabled in various ways.

And, two links for one --
Appy Mall

-- has links to free apps for children. Cindy's grandkids are coming to visit this summer, and I think she'd like to have some games to play with them.

Okay, I got to school and had time to experiment with the iPad. It opened Cindy's TV list in Google docs, but only the first page. It said Page 1/8, but no way to access the other pages. I found an arrow at the top of the page, and hit it, but it didn't take me to other pages, it just changed the look.

So, I emailed the attached list to myself (edit: as an MS Word document) and opened it in iPad. Worked like a charm; opened on the desktop and the look is nice and clear.

BUT I CAN'T FIND A WAY TO SAVE IT TO THE DESKTOP!!!

When the document is open, the top bar has only three things: a 'Done' button, the title, and a right-facing arrow. When I click that, it offers to print. I hit that, thinking maybe I could 'print' to desktop, but no. It looks for a physical printer, then tells me, "No AirPrint Printers Found". DUH!!!

Now what? I found out I can search my mail for "TV List" and it comes up. But Cindy has a mental wall; she won't be able to make it work for her.

*sigh* Can anyone tell me how to save that document to my desktop?

For the record, this is one more big black mark in the "Against iPad" column. Grrrr....

Thanks to everyone who weighed in. I successfully downloaded iTunes and made two John Denver CDs and one with Jimmie Rodgers. \o/ (I really only needed two CDs for the trip, and didn't need to stay up till 1:00 AM making #3, but... Jimmie Rodgers!) Of course, now there's no need for Dad to buy me a new program for Christmas.

I'm now at Dad's place, downloading some of his CDs into my computer. Every once in awhile, iTunes puts up a message that says:
iTunes uses Gracenote's Media Database to display information about songs on CDs. You can help improve this feature's accuracy by allowing iTunes to share information about this CD with Gracenote.
I'm hesitant. If I say 'yes' to sharing, will it put me on mailing lists for giving this or that music a try? In other words, should I say 'yes' to help anonymous other people, or 'no' to lessen my irritation levels?

Meanwhile, the puzzle-people answered me right away. Turns out, you have to solve them in order, then the next in line will open. (I was clicking on random puzzles, trying to get them to open.) What a relief! I zapped through all the puzzles, and now they're all accessible. (What a weird system. If a child is interested in puzzle E, but not puzzle D, they have to work 'D' anyway to get access to the E that entices them. Way to motivate kids to keep trying. Not.)

Anyway, I'm now with my folks, looking forward to baked ham and rigatoni for our big meal, followed by pumpkin, and downloading Marty Robbins into my computer. Good times.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate, and happy Thursday if you don't. And thanks again for the help.

Does anyone know how to email Apple support?

I paid for extra pages in a kids' puzzle I'm using at school. Billing shows that the payment went through. However, only 2 of the extra 9 pages opened. The help pages said to turn the unit completely off and on again; I've done that. Then unload the program and reload it. I tried that; lost 2 of the 4 pages that would open.

Went to the 'contact' page; it said email was the best way to get help. Clicked on the link and... nothing. No form to type in, no address to email to.

I started on Apple computers, back in 85 or so; first a IIc, then a IIe, and have a soft spot in my heart for them. But this damned iPad is erasing all those good feelings; it will NOT do what I want, or even what it's SUPPOSED to do!

!@#$%%%#$!!!

Help?

Anyone who's comfortable with an iPad... help?

The special ed dept at school got iPads for the therapists and diagnosticians to use. Three of my students will get an iPad with a communication app on it for their use, and till everything goes through the works, I'm using mine with games to teach them to recognize pictures, move things around, etc. They're doing pretty good, actually -- all very low-level kids who are showing us a lot more ability, now that they have something they can easily interact with.

Me, not so much. I'm continually frustrated by pages that don't have a "back" button. (Some do, but not all.) And pages that don't close, even when I press on the 'x'. So maybe you can tell me how to get OUT of stuff:

#1 - Somehow, I have 2 pages open in the app store. Those are pages that don't have a closing 'x'. How do I shut one of them down? I searched the net for a solution, and it said I could reset the iPad by holding the Wake/Sleep and the Home buttons at the same time for 5 seconds. After I looked up those buttons, I tried it, and it did seem to reset... but the app store still shows a little red '2' in the corner (which I assume means 2 pages open).

#2 - Most fanfic pages don't 'wrap'. I commonly use Ctrl + to increase the font size when I'm reading on my laptop. With the iPad, I can increase only a little bit before the words are hitting the edge of the screen. When I go larger, the words don't wrap; I need to scroll back and forth. The biggest I can go without having to scroll back and forth is too small for reading comfort. This happens with LJ, DW, and several fic archives. Only AO3 gives me a comfortable reading size, when I select PDF. (Yes, I'm using it horizontal instead of vertical; the font still isn't large enough to suit me.)

All my friends who use an iPad assure how wonderful it is, and I'll really like it when I'm more familiar with it. Maybe... but I doubt it. They've made it so damned "intuitive" (which is laughable; only if your brain works in those patterns) that it's locked in its pre-programmed defaults, and I can't make it do what *I* want! Forget "really like" -- I'll be happy if I can use it without taking a hammer to the screen!

At least, thanks to earlier help, I can make folders, yay! Bu for everything else, I'm pulling out my hair. Help!
