Carnivora-type souls include both feliforms and caniforms, which can range between cats, dogs, bears, mustelids, and more. Built with dentition for tearing flesh, and often with sharp claws for rending meat, Carnivora-types are predators. With such a vast diversity of soul origins, traits range widely in those with a Carnivora-type Natural Soul. Variability in fur, limbs, sight, ears, tails, and even skeletal structure seems to depend entirely on what sort of soul the Augmented is imbued with.
When Shifted, Carnivora-types may appear truly fearsome, and that's not just looks. All claws and teeth or tusks, their strength is formidable, and they have stamina that can push their ability to fight beyond what should be logically permitted, even when exhausted or injured. They're often covered with fur, their bodies mutated to do what they do best: hunt. Their limbs may swell with muscle, their bodies becoming bulky and sturdy, or lithe and fast. They're rounded fighters with few weak points save for being properly waited out—as once a Carnivora-type runs out of juice, they really crash. Their Shifted transformations are immensely impressive, but they tire them out more than any other soul type, which can leave them vulnerable.
- Fur. Texture, density, and distribution is entirely up to player choice, based on the appropriate animal. Even a walrus Natural Soul will have some sparse fur, but fur no less.
- Fur can cover the full body, or can be in patches along shoulders, neck, chest, upper and lower back, forearms, knuckles, shins, and feet. The amount of fur a Carnivora-type has often increases in their Shifted form.
- Teeth. A painful process, their structure will grow and develop, depending on the sort of animal chosen. Canine teeth especially will change, becoming especially adapted to tearing flesh.
- Ears, as appropriate to species. Nya. These should replace any current ears. Paired with the ears comes enhanced hearing.
- Altered limbs. Character hands and feet should change somewhat, ranging from the development of sharp claws, paw pads, thickened digits, broad, webbed hands... You can make this your own, but some sort of change should happen. You can choose just claws, or you can have your character develop fully formed paws/flippers... The choice is yours.
- Digitigrade locomotion, if appropriate or desired. (For example, raccoons and bears are plantigrade. Cats and dogs are digitigrade. Ask if you're unsure!)
- Tail. Even a stubby tail for pinnipeds! Length and style can vary widely.
- Increase in strength, stamina, speed, dexterity, or agility, or a combination of all the above depending on the sort of carnivore your character is imbued with.
- Whiskers. Can be as short, long, dense, or sparse as is appropriate, or as is preferred.
- Many Carnivora-types will have superior night vision, and thus exhibit eyeshine in low light conditions.
- Enhanced sense of smell. Like, an incredibly enhanced sense of smell. Characters can smell all kinds of things before, and at first it might be kind of overwhelming...
- There are a few traits between Canidae and Felidae that each one possesses, while the other does not. Here are a few examples, but know that there is more to discover!
- Canidae usually do not have retractable claws. They are incredibly pack-oriented and social.
- Felidae have retractable claws. Their tongues are coated in bristles called papillae. They are capable of purring.
- Ursidae do not develop incredibly good hearing or eyesight, but their sense of smell is unrivaled. They have an incredible memory, and are some of the most asocial of Carnivora.
- Depending on the type of animal borrowed from, characters may increase/decrease in size. For example, borrowing inspiration from the rusty-spotted cat, characters may decrease in size, whereas a polar bear would cause one to increase in size.
- Influenced by the full moon. Characters with this soul type will find themselves strongest when the moon is approaching its fullest. They will also feel most inclined to engage a Full Shift, and may be helpless to resist.
- On the day of the full moon proper, characters will feel amazing. Get too rowdy, and they may slip into a trance-like state where they lose control of their inhibitions and succumb to a most predatory drive.
- On the day after the full moon, characters will feel like they have a hangover. They will feel moody, sore, tired, and gloomy. This improves over the next week.
- You may approach your character's traits and inspire their powers based on Werewolf/Werecat, Kitsune, Huli jing, Onikuma or other caniform/feliform-associated mythical entities. You may also use deities, mythology, or otherwise from your character's canon. Go nuts!
- A character who is inspired by huli jing, bakeneko, and others may possess the ability to bewitch, charm, or sway others.
- A character inspired by werewolves may have a weakness to silver or bullets.
- A character inspired by onikuma may have incredible strength that they struggle to control.
- All Carnivora-types possess one of the two powers, depending on their source of inspiration:
- Feliforms have an affinity for lightning magic. They may hone their powers and be capable of casting lightning attacks, though this power is not as strong when not under the open sky.
- Caniforms are capable of destabilizing their opponent's mental state with a single booming bark, roar, howl, or other aggressive sound, laced with magic. This power can leave others disoriented, anxious, and disturbed; without opportunity to recollect themselves, it can give the Carnivora-type the upper hand.
- When Shifted, Carnivora-types have impressive regeneration powers that cause gaping wounds to stitch themselves up quickly. This makes them hardy opponents that withstand a beating.
- A predatory drive for catching things smaller, weaker... or particularly enticing to that individual. Could be feather, ball, bug, laser pointer—oh, sorry. Prey! Right?
- Characters may possess an irresistible hunger for meat or blood—and this may include that of human origin.
- Carnivora-type souls may exhibit extremely territorial inclinations. These can be circumstantial or influenced by the moon, but it may be a persistent thing, or driven by particular objects, scents, or people. Behaviors may include aggression, dominance, protective circling, or other animal-appropriate behaviors.
- A pack mentality for those social carnivores such as wolves or lions. That is, they will feel most at ease when operating within a small group of trusted allies—and particularly vulnerable when operating alone. A lone wolf is a sick wolf! Working within their chosen family will feel comfortable and natural, and even otherwise selfish sorts may find themselves taking into account the group's needs over their own.
- On the other end of things, characters whose soul type is a solitary hunter might find themselves determined to do things on their own, where they may have originally sought help from others. A fierce independence influences their behavior, to the point of snarling at, or chasing off anyone who gets too close—particularly those who might be seen as competitors, such as other Carnivora-types.
- Carnviora-types are inclined toward scent-marking. You can get creative with this: your character may develop scent glands that they rub on things they wish to claim, or you can have your character inclined to use their favorite perfume on things that belong to them. Or yeah you can just have them piss on it, see if we care.
- ✦NSFW✦ — breeding seasons! This is totally optional, but your character can have a heat cycle or breeding season appropriate for the animal they're based on.
- ✦NSFW✦ — as is true for all soul types, you may choose to develop your character's sex characteristics based on the animal of choice.
