so glad you made it

At first I thought this post would be about the sixties hit by The Spencer Davis Group, "Gimme Some Lovin'".

Then I noticed a youtube suggested clip (honestly I like youtube suggestions much better than anything FB ever suggested ) while I was checking out a few "Gimme Some Lovin'" clips. The suggestion was a creation of the "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher" song mixed with a dance scene of Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire. (link to the clip)

Not only did I enjoy the dancing clip but also starting checking other suggested mixes with Rita Hayworth. (he was last seen exploring the depths of youtube)

"I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way."

Here's a collection of them.

And there are even more of them. My favorite one mixed old movie dance scenes with Led Zepplin.  Well my favorite one was removed from youtube. It happens too often. Do you wanna dance with somebody?

twerking lessons

Act now!  Be the first to twerk on your block.
It's better than pole dancing, no equipment needed.

Image
you'll be exhausted after my twerk lesson

Seriously, if you have read any posts here before you probably know I would be as likely to offer twerking lessons as write reviews of the VMA show. MTV and I were never close. About the closest I ever came to MTV was its reference in a favorite song, “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits. “I want my MTV!”

Actually I don’t want any MTV or cable programming anymore. Dropping cable TV was a good move. I get all I need from broadcast channels and the internet.

Slight tangent - Cheryl posted a funny “review” of the VMA show. Here’s a link.

Twerking - I first noticed that word show up on a suggested youtube video list. Beyonce can twerk well. Miley? I didn’t watch her twerking except for the few clips on the internet. Her twerk sure was tweeted. From the little I’ve seen and read, her tongue should have been tweeted off the stage. What’s with the dog tongue? Twerking does not require your tongue to exit the inside of your mouth.

Two small bits of news on twerking (a Lisleman’s newsdesk rehash of stuff found on the web

I never would have believed I would saying this back then.  But oh, I long for the days of a simple Macarena.  I want my, I want my, I want my Macarena.

I love the hammock

Long ago it was, I love the nightlife. Recently I find the hammock a good replacement for the nightlife.

Image

The nightlife was exciting but I never cared much for disco. I can’t dance.

Now had I found a partner like the Seinfeld character Elaine nightlife would have been different. We would have cleared the dance floor. Anybody could be that guy. The night is young and the music is high. I’m in the mood for a nap. (don’t know the Seinfeld reference? check this clip)

Oh, I ... Ohhh I ... I love the hammock,
I got to sleep under the trees, oh yea.

Don’t know disco from costco from cisco?

this lady would be fun to go out with

I don't typically write a post about complete strangers except for people in the news. Who knows this lovely lady might be in the news for her viral video. It's great to see people step outside and greet their day with such enthusiasm.

Now I'm not looking for anyone. My wife is a fun dancer and even laughs at a few of my jokes. I'm probably too old for this lady. However, this clip has me wondering if cranking up the stereo in the car always works this well. Cruising to loud tunes is fun.

From the Youtube clip description this fun dancer is 88.  (oh be sure to have your sound on - don't miss what she says at the end)

enjoy

not going to happen today

Watching this youtube clip of the Box Tops (even looking back that’s a dumb band name) stirred up many memories and thoughts in my mind.  While they slosh around up there, I am going to capture a few of them here. You can capture and share your ideas about it too in the comment section.

My first reaction after watching was, hey I didn’t dance so bad afterall. Look at that guy over there. This refreshed memories of an eighth grade dance and many other weekend dances in High School gyms.

Another memory was watching American Bandstand. How lucky to be on TV dancing with cute girls. Of course, I thought those girls would be better off with me.

Image

I went to many weekend dances but I didn’t care much for the formal dances. You had to prearrange a date for the formal dances. The high school gym dances were inexpensive and a trial by fire for your pick-up lines. Often after being shot down, the dance would become a spectator sport for me. Oh how a don’t care attitude about rejection would have helped. Did the girls really care much about how you danced?

Another thought is the song itself. How many under-twenty kids have ever written a love letter? I wrote a few. It takes time to handwrite a letter. Teens today probably don’t even bother using email to express their love. Texting.

….My baby just texted me a few letters...

Yes a few letters - not even whole words.

One last thing about dancing that I discovered. I discovered this at a wedding. Want to liven up the dance floor? Pass out funny hats and masks (I'm not wearing a mask here).

slumber party invite

Maybe you’ll get a little break now from hearing about the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, the Tea Party and the Rent is too damn high party (Ok I didn’t get any calls from them but if you are interested check this post)

But how about the slumber party?

Remember them?

Slumber parties are certainly a girl thing but having daughters provided me some first hand slumber party experiences. Most of my thoughts on the subject centers around sound proofing techniques.

Silly is a key part of a good slumber party. Silly dancing adds fun to any slumber party. One of our adult daughters has continued this silly theme with a weekly dance event she runs with another silly friend. There now is a third partner. They called themselves den mothers.

Image

They have been doing this for a few years now. I posted about it last year too.

Their Dance Dance Party Party events recently received some local TV coverage. One of the best explanations of what it is all about was relating it to the silly slumber party dancing that you may have enjoyed as a kid. They offer you an event to get your silly slumber party moves going again as an adult. No rules, no men, max dance absurdity. It’s only $5 and women only.

Here’s a link to their “DDPP” blog.
So ladies if it’s been too long since you shimmied and shook till you needed slumber consider visiting a Dance Dance Party Party event.

family dancing beer and transformers

Sunday was a full and fun day.

After a great start with homemade buttermilk pancakes that I was allowed to put homemade blueberry sauce on (reminder to self - post about blueberry sauce) we went to a Broadway-in-Chicago musical.

Maybe you've heard of it?  It's about this British kid that wants to dance the ballet.  Great dancing, singing and acting.  But I have not heard "piss-off" that much since the time in a UK pub and the footballers stormed in.  Oh, the name of the musical - Billy Elliot.

Not far from the theater district, the Chicago streets were a total mess.

It looked worst than the winter potholes that have been known to swallow a car.

Would you be interesting in a slightly used SUV?

Hollywood has descended on Chicago.  The movie Transformers 3 is being filmed in Chicago this summer.  A week or so back, they filmed base jumpers (crazies if you ask me) jumping off the top of that big shiny Trump tower seen here:

Image

I can remember when transformer meant an electrical device to transform voltages in a circuit.

We finished the day off with a great meal and beers at the Hopleaf tavern on Clark St.  They are known for their great beer selection.  Also the mussels for two are excellent.

Having a few beers and thinking about a major Hollywood movie being in town, I thought I should change into character with some shades.

Would you be interested in autograph prints of this photo?
I didn't think so.

dance dance party party

- A special activity just for ladies -
Dance Dance Party Party

DDPP chicago

Do live in Chicagoland?
If yes, then you might be interested in this. Also, it has spread to other cities.

I know the co-founders, the Jenn's, of this weekly activity. Of course, being the wrong gender I never have witnessed one of these Dance Dance Party Party events. However I have seen the Jenn's dancing at some weddings. They get into their own little world on the dance floor.

But my lack of rhythm and dance ability would not matter because that's the idea here. It's like dancing in you living room but with some other living room dancers. No rules, no men, max dance
absurdity

Depending when you read this you might be able to go free.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15th & SUNDAY, APRIL 19th... the Chicago chapter of Dance Dance Party Party will be FREE to ALL

Here's some links about DDPP
