This article is about the hardware component. For the program and the Progressbar95 music themes, see Media Player.
Sound cards are hardware components that provide audio for the computer. They add new music qualities to the media player, but they get useless soon after. The sound card you start with is a PC Speaker (you used to start with a MIDI card before the Media Player was added) and the best sound card that can be unlocked is the S Blast Cobsa (it used to be the S Blast Shriek 11D). In BarOS, the best sound card you can get as of BarOS 10.III is 64-bit surround.
All Progressbar sound cards but the first three are based on the Sound Blaster family of sound cards from Creative Technology Limited. The PbLib Y1238 sound card, in turn, is based on AdLib, and Cow-ox Thing is based on Covox Speech Thing, a LPT sound device. In BarOS, sound cards are described after the bits it holds and the quality of audio it provides (e.g. mono, stereo, surround).

- The reason why the starting sound card was "int" in 0.23 to 0.26 was probably because it was an integer value.[verify]
