Retail Therapy? (Weekend Street/Reflections # 269)

Image

 Costa Mesa, California

Welcome to the unofficial championship of Competitive Napping.🏆

Four brave contestants entered the massage chair store, determined to “just try it for a minute.” Minutes turned into hours. Shoes were abandoned. Pride was forgotten. Somewhere in the distance, a salesperson quietly gave up.

Just kidding.😎 Several years ago, I walked past this scene in a mall. It took a few seconds to fully register what I was witnessing, so I doubled back, poked my camera into the entrance, and grabbed the shot before anyone noticed.

L'artiste (Weekend Street/Reflections # 254)

Image
Santa Ana, California

It's said that a great haircut is a work of art, and the barber is the artist. I don't have much to work with, so I prefer to create my own "art".😉

Regarding the quirky things in last week's photo, Taken for Granted was correct: "The fellow with the umbrella has an odd-looking hand to his face, and the license plate on the car is obscured. " I also noticed that some of the lettering on the signs was a little off.

Hero (Weekend Street/Reflections # 185)

Image

 Newport Beach, California

A man reading about a local lifeguard hero who lost his life in the line of duty. Lifeguard Ben Carlson had over 500 rescues until a fateful day in 2014 when he was killed by a massive wave.

Taking a break (Weekend Street/Reflections # 137)

Image

 Newport Beach, California

One night while walking around the fun zone I "spied" a cook taking a break at the Harborside restaurant in the Balboa Pavillion. I took the shot through a circular feature on a metal fence. It kind of looks like the view from a spyglass, which fits the nautical theme of the area.

Just a man and his unicorns (Weekend Street/Reflections # 136)

This reminds me of a saying I saw on a T-shirt "Being a person is getting too complicated. Time to be a unicorn."😄

Yosemite Sam/Horace Greeley (Weekend Street/Reflections # 95)

Image
Newport Beach, California

While standing on the Newport Beach pier, he said, "Go West, young man" and laughed. I wondered if he wanted me to jump off the end of the pier or go to Catalina Island. Then I laughed because he called me a young man. I was probably 50 when I took this picture.😄

Surprise Attack! (Weekend/Street Reflections # 34)

Image

 San Diego, California

I was trying to figure out the settings on my smartphone camera when all of a sudden this guy popped up and started grinding pepper over my salad. I was a little startled but that didn't stop me from taking his picture. Aren't they supposed to ask if you want pepper? 😀

A Slow Night at the Trattoria (Weekend Street/Reflections # 14)

Image

 Newport Beach, California

I took this photo in 2018 however it could have been taken in 2020 or 2021 with more customers.  COVID restrictions haven't been enforced in my city and several restaurants have remained open.

However, I think some restaurants were open only for takeaway for a while.

I've been tracking COVID since February 2020, and thankfully, it has never been a big problem here.

Newport Beach population 86,000:

As of April 29, 2021, there are approximately 134 cases.

From day one less than 5% of the population have been infected (3,868 cases), and of those infected, more than 98% survive. (total deaths 75)

How has it been where you live?

Waiting? (Weekend Street/Reflections # 12)

Image

 Santa Ana, California

Photographs can be visual templates for stories. We can fill in the blanks.

A few weeks ago, I posted a photo of a woman waiting for a bus in Paris, or maybe she was just resting her feet.

What's the story here?

She could be waiting for someone, or perhaps she's waiting for a pizza, or maybe it's something completely different.

Ciao Ciao (Weekend Reflections # 590)

Image
Newport Beach  (Balboa Island)

Somehow the Italian restaurant across the street made a double reflection in this window. I've never eaten there but it's usually crowded.

Time Marches On, Happy 2021 ! (Weekend Reflections # 588)

Image
Newport Beach, California

My phone camera takes really bad night photos but despite that I sometimes try to take reflections pictures. I was going to delete it but the elements of darkness, light, obscurity and even a clock seem appropriate as we exit 2020 and enter a new year.

Happy New Year!

Oh Christmas Trees ? (Weekend Reflections # 587)

Image
Newport Beach, California

It's been a strange year, so why not a reflection of a strange "Christmas tree." It's actually a tube with colored lights made in the shape of a Christmas tree. I see them a lot, but this one caught my eye because at first I thought there were two, one inside and one outside. Turns out that there was just one, and the inside one was a reflection.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Into the Sunset (Weekend Reflections # 572)

Image
Newport Beach, California

The sun reflected on the water.

When my wife and I walk around Balboa Island it's always nice to be at this spot as the sun is setting. Sometimes we have to pick up the pace to get there in time. It's always very beautiful but I wouldn't mind trading places with the guy in the canoe.

Clouds and Palm Trees (Weekend Reflections # 566)

Image
Irvine, California

Two of the "clouds" aren't real and they aren't reflections. The fake clouds and the white lamps were hanging from the ceiling inside of the shop.

Have a great weekend!😊

Balboa Island Museum (Weekend Reflections # 557)

Image
Newport Beach, California

A rare local reflection after a rare rain storm.  :-)  Taken January 2020

If I would have lain flat on the ground or if my knees and back were younger, I probably could have captured more of this building reflected in a puddle between parked cars. But I was able to get the top of the building with the signage.

Balboa Island Museum

Happy reflecting!
