Vietnam in Paris (Weekend Street/Reflections # 270)

Image

 Paris, France

I was drawn like a moth to a flame to this steamy window on a cold night in Paris. I don't remember exactly where it was or if the restaurant is still there. It was probably eleven or twelve years ago.

Transport en commun (Weekend Street/Reflections # 267)

As I age, I have less patience for crowds and for driving in traffic. Perhaps Tesla's FSD or Cybercabs will be the answer in the future?

The look on her face when she discovered a place that sells hot wine and oysters at bargain prices? Or it could be something else entirely.

Chez les bon vivants (Weekend Street/Reflections # 259)

Image
Lyon, France

"Les Bons Vivants est un lieu de vie où le partage et la convivialité sont maîtres mots."

According to their website, this restaurant is a place where sharing and conviviality are key words. I bet the guy on the phone's keywords were "You were supposed to meet me here at 8 o'clock." 😐

Blade Runner Vibes (Weekend Street/Reflections # 243)

Image
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The rain glossed the sidewalk as he ducked under his umbrella, neon glow painting his steps pink and gold. Inside the bakery, the warmth of custard buns and milk tea called out—a fleeting refuge in Philadelphia’s Chinatown, where every doorway felt like a portal to another city, another life, or another world.

Le Cauchemar du Pont (Weekend Street/Reflections # 226)

Image

 Prague, Czech Republic

The man trudged along the slick cobblestone bridge, the sound of footsteps trailed him through the damp night, always close yet never overtaking. He didn’t dare turn. The diamond-shaped sign felt like a cryptic warning mocking his every step. The bridge seemed to stretch endlessly, its railing a cage, the river below whispering accusations he couldn’t decipher. Suddenly, a car's headlights pierced the mist. It was like a splash of cold water on his face, reminding him he was late for the meeting—always late, though he could never recall who summoned him or why.

A Noir Lament (Weekend Street/Reflections # 225)

Image
Newport Beach, California

In the smoky haze of the late-night café, Evelyn sat at her usual table, the black-and-white world around her pulsing with the mournful wail of a live jazz band. The saxophone’s notes curled through the air like a confession, each one tugging at the edges of her grief. Behind her dark sunglasses, her eyes were fixed on the empty chair across from her, where her late husband used to tap his foot to the rhythm. A glass of bourbon sat untouched, next to a faded photo of the two of them dancing here years ago. The band played on, but for Evelyn, the music was a ghost—haunting, familiar, and gone.

They say ice cream can make you smile because it activates the brain's pleasure centers, releasing chemicals that make you feel happy. It can also evoke positive memories and feelings of nostalgia.

I think it only applies to eating it, not serving it. 😏

Nice Noël 24 (Weekend Street/Reflections # 204)

Image
Nice, France

Place Massena in Nice is very festive this time of year. I wanted to take a picture of the Ferris wheel and the Noël Nice 24 sign, but I was too close to capture them in the frame. Instead of walking across the street, I decided to wait for a tram to go by so I could capture their reflections in the window.

Vive le Vent (Weekend Street/Reflections # 203)

Image

 Dijon, France

There was only a slight breeze when I took this picture, but it reminded me of something that happened a long time ago. On a very windy day when I was 4 or 5 years old my mother took me to see Santa Claus at Fashion Island (a local shopping mall). Afterward, as we walked to the car, a gust of wind knocked a huge Christmas ball off the side of a building and it started rolling quickly toward us. We were holding hands but I broke free and ran and hid behind a parked car. My mother wasn't so lucky. I watched as the ball chased her through the parking lot. She was very upset but thankfully uninjured. Strangely it didn't scare me at the time and afterward I thought it was funny. It took my mother a lot more time to find the humor in it. 😄
