I wondered if the empty seat was reserved for me.πŸ˜‡

The Chapel of St. Sebastian (Weekend Street/Reflections # 177)

Image
Vatican City

This chapel inside St. Peter's Basilica contains the altar of St. Sebastian, an early Christian martyr from the Late Roman Empire.

Under the altar are the remains of Pope St John Paul II.

Ritratto di un panettiere ( Weekend Street/Reflections # 173)

Image
Rome, Italy

I used to be addicted to sugar and all types of baked goods until last year when I decided to eat a healthier diet. It was easier than I thought. However, all of my restrictions go out the window when I travel.😎

Walking in a storm. (Weekend Street/Reflections # 124)

Image
Rome, Italy                      Piazza Navona, The Fountain of Neptune

Standing in front of the fountain of Neptune during a rain storm. The narrow street between the tall buildings offers some shelter from the wind and rain.

If you enlarge the picture you will be able to see an imposing statue of Neptune lunging his trident.

Neptune was the Roman god of waters and seas, who controlled winds and storms.

Rainy Days (Weekend Street/Reflections # 112)

Image

 Rome, Italy

I've always preferred rain and snow to hot weather.

It usually doesn't rain much in Southern California, but this year is an exception. I heard it snowed a little in other parts of my county, but they're probably confusing hail for snow.

La ragnatela (Weekend Street/Reflections # 105)

This doorway reminded me of a spiderweb. Ragnatela is the Italian word for spiderweb.

Alone in a crowd (Weekend Street/Reflections # 101)

Image
Rome, Italy

The woman in the middle of the crowd was staring at something above. Probably a beautiful old building. I was waiting for her to say, "Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!"😁

Italian Attitude (Weekend Street/Reflections # 71)

Image
Rome, Italy

One evening I noticed what seemed to be some drama going on in this bar in Rome. I couldn't hear anything, but it looked like an Italian soap opera scene (not that I've ever seen one). By the time I got close enough to snap a quick picture, the arm-waving, foot-stomping drama had cooled down.

Hopefully, after I left the angry drama, turned into "amore appassionato".

Have a great weekend!

Gente di Trastevere/People of Trastevere (Weekend Street/Reflections # 56)

Image

 Rome, Italy

When I saw these people sitting in a bar in the Trastevere neighborhood in Rome one evening in 2016, it reminded me of a rare old street photo book from the early 1960s called "Gente di Trastevere by Carlo Bavagnoli."

Here's some pictures from the book, what do you think?

Ready, Aim, Click, Click (Weekend Street/Reflections # 31)

Image
Rome, Italy

I was able to click a few shots before this guy shot once. They don't call me the fastest shot in the West for nothing.

I heard some cheering as I walked away so they must have been impressed. Hmm..on second thought, maybe he hit the bullseye. πŸ˜„

Il Fornaio (Weekend Street/Reflections # 20)

Image

 Rome, Italy

I enjoy having coffee and cookies at Il Fornaio in Rome, but it's hard to choose the cookies because they all look so good.

Like me, the guy outside was having a difficult time deciding which baked goods to buy.

Palazzo Pamphili (Weekend Reflections # 585)

Image
Rome, Italy

One evening while walking through the Piazza Navona I noticed one of the windows of the Pamphili Palace was reflecting in a puddle. This photo doesn't do it justice; the painted ceiling is spectacular!

Palazzo Doria Pamphilj (Weekend Reflections # 574)

Image
Rome, Italy

I found this reflection inside of the  Doria Pamphilj Gallery in Rome. I don't mind walking around in the rain, but I must admit this was an interesting and dry couple of hours.

Weekend Reflections is 11 years old. Wow!

In 2009 I never imagined that it would still be around in 2020. Thanks for your wonderful contributions and comments over the years. πŸ˜€πŸ’–

Slowly Draining Away ? (Weekend Reflections # 527)

The water was slowly going down the drain but that didn't seem to disturb the reflection.

Have a great weekend and don't forget to set back your clocks this weekend if needed.

Another Rainy Day in Rome (Weekend Reflections# 511)

Image
Rome, Italy

You may have noticed from my photos over the years that I get a lot of rain when I travel. No need to feel sorry for me. I love rain and cool weather. Seriously, the thought of summer travel sounds horrible to me.  However, early spring and late fall travel is not bad.   :-)

Happy Reflecting!

St. Peter's Basilica at Night (Weekend Reflections # 510)

Image
Vatican City

After walking around St. Peter's Basilica I noticed this reflection in a puddle. I think the slight breeze gave the reflection a dreamy look.

Last week was terrible for "Linky Tools." It wasn't easy, but after several attempts I was able to link most of you. Sorry if I missed anyone.  Hopefully this doesn't happen again because I pay for Linky Tools and expect it to work properly. Maybe it's time to find a better way to link?

Have a great weekend!
