A Tree and a Field in early Winter

Image
Image Last month I started a long walk near the tree in the top photo. After walking a long way and circling back I spotted the tree again from the middle of the field. It may have been winter but it gave me a spring in my step. I suppose I could have titled this post "The start and the finish".

What the ....?

Again this was in between storms the surf was high and the wind was gusting at over 40mph.
The sun kept going in and out of the clouds which made the lighting very unusual at times. Image

The picture above was supposed to be my last one because of all of the blowing sand but then I saw this huge kite and I wondered how someone could fly it in this wind and not end up in the water.
Image

So I took a closer look and saw the surfer being pulled by the kite and I said "what the .... ?"

I've seen this before but never in conditions like these. I still wonder how he or she made it back to shore with such high winds and big choppy waves. Image This week for Outdoor Wednesday we move a couple miles down the coast to Balboa Beach.
I'm glad that I got these shots but in hindsight it wasn't very smart to take pictures with all of the sand blowing around. I got lucky this time.

Follow the Brown,Red and Orange Brick Road

Image Follow the Yellow brick road has a much nicer ring to it, but I work with what I have.

My back is giving me trouble again, it's hard to sit at the desk. So I'm going to take a couple days off from blogging. I should be back for Skywatch Friday.
We are hoping to go to Munich and Prague in November and we are open to tips and suggestions about where to stay and what to do or if you have helpful websites. We have never been to either place.
See you in a couple of days!

Watery Love in Philadelphia

Image Image If you enlarge the top photo you might recognize the four eagles on the left building from another post. You might also see the Cira Center again it's in the background and slightly to the right in the bottom photo.
The bottom picture was taken at the base of new, tall and really cool building which I'll show more of inside and out in the future.

A Strange Duck Making a Big Splash

A few months ago I saw this strange sightseeing vehicle in Baltimore, and didn't think much about it.

Image

Then a few weeks ago I saw another one in Philadelphia. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it rolling in to the harbor.
Image

SPLASH! Duck sounds, loud cheers and clapping! Quack Quack!
Image
My camera was clicking and my mouth was open as it drove away on the water.
Image
Later I heard a horn and saw our duck friends enjoying themselves on the water.
Image I need to give this a try. I just wonder if they fly? Quack!

Thorfinn Karlsefni Gaurding the Schuylkill

Image
Image Image It was such a beautiful day when I went to Fairmont Park so let's continue with a couple of views of this very imposing statue of Thorfinn Karlsefni who seems to be the gaurdian of the Schuylkill River. The Ballon in the background is from the 135 yr old Philadelphia Zoo, a place that I hope to visit soon. Can you imagine the pictures that I could get if I was in that balloon?
The statue was created in 1917 by Icelandic sculptor Einar Jónsson and the plaque was added some years later.
