A Google Sheets waitlist, one row for every signup

LaunchList is an official Google Sheets app: connect your Google account, choose a new spreadsheet or one you already have, and every new signup is added to it as a row, with the columns you choose. LaunchList can open only the spreadsheets it creates or you pick, and nothing else in your Google Drive.

Set up

Set it up in 4 steps

  1. Connect Google Sheets.

In LaunchList, open Embed & API, then Overview. Under Connectors, press Connect on the Google Sheets row. A short panel says what LaunchList will do before you go to Google.

  2. Choose where the signups go.

Under Where signups go, pick A new spreadsheet, or A spreadsheet I already have and choose it with Choose from Google Drive. For a spreadsheet you have, LaunchList adds a tab called LaunchList signups and never writes into your other tabs. Press Continue to Google and allow access.

  3. Choose your columns.

In the settings, press Change next to Columns and tick what you want in the sheet, such as email, name, when they signed up, where they came from and their referral link. The answers to your form's questions can have their own columns too.

  4. Watch the rows arrive.

Your signups so far are added, then each new signup as a row, usually within a minute. Press Open sheet to see it.

A row for every signup

Many waitlists start as a spreadsheet, and a sheet is still where many founders like to look at one: sort it, filter it, paste it into a mail merge. The part that is a chore is getting each signup into it.

LaunchList collects the signups, with a launch page or a form. It finds duplicates, sends the confirmation email and gives each person a referral link. The Google Sheets app adds a row to your spreadsheet for each new one, so the sheet fills as people sign up and you copy nothing by hand.

What lands in the sheet

Column A is a LaunchList ID, which is how LaunchList finds a row if it has to delete one. After it come the columns you choose, named as they are in a CSV export.

Column What it holds
Email or identifier, name Who signed up
Signup date When, in UTC
Referral code and link, referred by How they were invited and who invited them
Source, UTM source, medium and campaign, landing page Where each signup came from
Location and device Their country and the kind of device they used
Form answers One column for each question on your form

These are the values that are fixed when someone signs up. Things that change later, such as a stage, a referral count or a position in line, are not columns. Everything is written as plain text or a number, so something a signup types that starts with = shows as text and never runs as a formula.

One row, written once

A row is added when a signup arrives and is never changed afterwards. That is the same as the sheet a form tool fills. LaunchList always has the current list, and a CSV export gives you a fresh copy any time.

  • A new signup is added as a row, usually within a minute. LaunchList adds signups in small groups about 15 seconds after they arrive, and it can take longer when Google limits requests.
  • An erased signup has their row deleted. Erasure is the one time LaunchList removes rows: the erased signup's, and any copy of it with the same LaunchList ID.
  • A removed signup that you did not erase keeps their row.
  • A list you import is added after the import finishes.
  • While adding is turned off, or on a plan without the app, new signups wait and are added when it resumes.
  • Columns you turn off are removed from the sheet, and columns you turn on are added at the end and fill for new rows.

Test signups, signups held for review and signups hidden because your list is past your plan's size are not added. A signup held for review is added when you approve it. A hidden signup is never added, even if your plan grows later.

The sheet stays yours

Sort it, filter it, add your own columns, edit cells, rename the tab or move the spreadsheet in Drive, and LaunchList keeps adding rows. It adds them at the bottom of its own tab and never changes one it has written, so your edits stay.

Your Drive, your say

LaunchList asks Google only for access to the spreadsheets it creates or you pick. It cannot see anything else in your Google Drive. Disconnect any time and LaunchList's access is revoked, and your spreadsheets stay where they are.

Signups in a sheet are a copy of your audience. Share the spreadsheet only with people who should see it.

On the Free plan and the Collect plan

The app is on the Launch plan and the Grow plan. On any plan, a Zap or a Make scenario started by a webhook can add a row for each new signup with a Google Sheets step. It does the same job, and you map the fields yourself. See the plans when you want the app.

FAQ

Questions about Google Sheets and LaunchList

Does LaunchList have a Google Sheets app?
Yes. It is an official app you connect from Embed & API, under Connectors. It adds a row to a Google Sheet for every new signup in a project, and it is on the Launch plan and the Grow plan.
How do I keep my waitlist in a Google Sheet?
Connect Google Sheets from Embed & API and choose a new spreadsheet or one you already have. Every new signup is added as a row. You collect signups with a LaunchList page or form, which finds duplicates and sends the confirmation email, and the sheet gets a row for each one.
Does the sheet update when a signup changes?
No. Each signup is added once, when they sign up, and the row is not changed afterwards. LaunchList always has the current list, and a CSV export gives you a fresh copy any time.
Which plans include the Google Sheets app?
The Launch plan and the Grow plan. On the Free plan and the Collect plan, a webhook sent to Zapier or Make can add a row for each new signup with a Google Sheets step.
What does LaunchList see in my Google Drive?
Only the spreadsheets it creates and the ones you choose. It asks Google for that one permission, and it cannot see your other files. It stores your Google email address and the access Google gives it, encrypted, and it does not keep a copy of your spreadsheet.
Can I use a spreadsheet I already have?
Yes. Choose it from Google Drive and LaunchList adds a new tab called LaunchList signups to it. It never writes into your other tabs.
Can I edit or sort the sheet?
Yes. LaunchList only adds new rows at the bottom of its own tab and never changes a row it has written, so sort it, filter it, add your own columns and edit cells as you like.
Which signups are not added to the sheet?
Test signups, signups hidden because your list is past the size of your plan, and signups held for review. A signup held for review is added when you approve it. A hidden signup is never added, even if your plan grows later.
What happens to a row when I erase a signup?
LaunchList deletes their row while Google Sheets is connected. After you stop syncing a project, change to another sheet or disconnect, it can no longer delete rows that are already in your sheet, so delete those in Google Sheets yourself.
Can I stop it, or take away LaunchList's access?
Yes. Turn off **Add new signups** with one switch, stop syncing a project, or disconnect. Disconnecting revokes LaunchList's access, and your spreadsheets stay in your Drive. You can also remove LaunchList in your Google Account, under Third-party access.
I already keep my list in a spreadsheet. Can I bring it in?
Yes. Export the sheet as a CSV and import it into LaunchList, which finds duplicates and keeps the columns you map. Then connect Google Sheets, and each new signup is added to a sheet from then on.
