For the same stat as it appears in WolfQuest: Classic and Legacy versions, see Stamina.

Energy is a heads-up display element associated with the Wolf Badge, and a core stat for playable wolves in all revisions of WolfQuest.

In WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, Energy (also known as Stamina) is represented by the green meter, second from the top, extending from the right side of the Wolf Badge.

How much energy the player-wolf has (and therefore the length of the meter) is influenced by the stamina attribute allocated during avatar customization and the Stamina perk icon stamina age perk. This meter and its capacity are not referenced in Pack Info.

Exertion will steadily deplete energy. Idling, galloping (or slower), rest, and sleep will help recuperate lost energy; these rates are determined by the avatar's activity. Galloping offers the slowest rate, trotting is noticeably faster, and walking and stalking are faster again. Coming to a complete stop to briefly idle or utilising rest will offer the fastest rates with maximum efficiency.

Actions and activities which will cause energy to deplete:

Player-wolf panting, showing exhaustion due to their low energy.

Energy is always 100% full at the beginning of a game. As it depletes and borders on low-to-empty, the player-wolf will begin to pant and continues to do so for as long as their energy is low, visually and auditorily signalling their exhaustion. If the stat reaches 0%, the player's wolf will be forced to slow their pace if they continue to sprint. While at 0% energy, continued sprinting will force the player-wolf down to a trot as their maximum speed, and they will temporarily become unable to jump, attack, carry pups and heavy objects, or latch on to targets for a short period of time. Note that it is still possible to gallop (tapping the Shift key key once, or pushing the left analog stick of any controller to its maximum range) to move relatively quickly while still regaining energy.

Regeneration and depletion of this meter is affected by the active difficulty setting, with Easy providing the highest regeneration and lowest depletion rates, and both Accurate and Unforgiving having the lowest regeneration rates and highest depletion rates. Challenging is balanced between the two. The amount of energy available is directly tied to other vital meters. It is the fastest and easiest meter to recharge. Energy regeneration is at its slowest while in motion and recovers at its fastest while idle or resting.

Having 15-100% wakefulness provides the maximum amount of energy. Maximum energy begins to noticeably shrink when wakefulness dips below 15, making high-energy tasks more tedious to accomplish, especially at 0% wakefulness. The amount of food the player has also affects their maximum energy. The energy meter will slowly decrease once food falls further below 50%. Once food is at or below 10%, the maximum energy available will decrease sharply. Energy does not decrease when food is over 100%. Additional small factors such as thirst, and pack rallies also affect the player's maximum energy.

Damage[]

In the Anniversary Edition as of Early Access version 1.0.8d, the amount of energy (stamina) remaining directly affects a wolf's damage output. Wolves will start dealing less damage when below 50% energy, with the lowest damage output at 10% energy. Attacks above 50% energy are not reduced at all, therefore it is best practice to allow the meter some time to refill between attacks and only bite while above this percentage.

Notes[]

In the Anniversary Edition, there are some things to take note of:

  • * = While swimming does not deplete stamina, the meter will not regenerate while swimming in/through or treading on water. Similarly, a wolf digging out a dirt/burrow den will not regenerate stamina while performing this activity.
  • * = Carrying a pup as of Early Access version 1.0.7n will slowly deplete stamina. Once stamina is depleted, the player wolf will put down the pup.
    • Though carrying a pup does deplete stamina, if a wolf is on terrain where they cannot drop their precious cargo (on a cliff, boulders, jagged rocks, etc) the player wolf will be unable to let go of the pup even if they are out of stamina.

Trivia[]

Anniversary Edition Trivia

  • Either "Energy" or "Stamina" are considered correct, as both are referenced in-game.
    • One of the Game Help articles references it as "Energy".
  • When a wolf is sliding down a cliff, they will lose stamina if the player decides to activate sprint while sliding down. Sprinting does not cause the wolf to slide down faster, and ultimately results in wasted stamina.
    • Therefore, it is best practice to not sprint while sliding down a cliff to regain and conserve stamina.
  • Wolves will stick out their tongue and open their mouth while they are recovering stamina.
  • Though wolves cannot sprint, jump, or bite with 0% stamina, wolves are still able to successfully shake off wolf attacks.
