Christmas Lights Switch On Leicester

The festive season gets off to a spectacular start in Leicester with the annual light switch on. We start the evening at Jubilee Square where the giant wheel of light shines over the city sparkling with bright white light and patterns across it's spokes and circumference. Moving along High Street and outside Urban Outfitters is the Snow Queen in her snow globe. As we pass a beautifully decorated tree we find ourselves at the Town Hall Square fountain where, illuminated by bright colours, there`s Christmas magic already in the air, soon we see a gentle giant blue bear and baby exploring the space and giving the camera a sniff. Next up a very tall pink Christmas fairy has come down from the top of the tree to say hello. We go traditional next with a performance from the  @LeicesterCathedral  Choir performing Once In Royal David`s City as the lights are switched on the well known " Christmas Greetings " words, a regular part of the cities Town Hall decorations f...

Luxmuralis The Elements - Leicester Cathedral

Luxmuralis returned to  @LeicesterCathedral  with their show The Elements following the success of SPACE Luxmuralis gave visitors the chance to witness fiery volcanoes, be immersed in the oceans whilst remaining dry !, and take to the skies. Watch as the natural world evolves around you. be enveloped by each element and witness the transformation of Leicester Cathedral as we contemplate our planet and the environment in which we live. Starting outside the cathedral we enter through the new porch into the darkened cathedral where we are greeted and told about the instalation by the team. As we approach the first part we see birds flying around and the collums and arches of the cathedral illuminated in blues and reds. moving through the cathedral we reach King Richard III`s tomb which is lit a deep red and the wall in front of his grave features a lava themed projection representing a volcano erupting with related sound effects. In another side chapel we find ourselves ...

Sirens: Songs Of Sisterhood - Journeys Festival International

In Sirens: Songs Of Sisterhood by  @liminalcreative1567  seven rock-like forms transform as you wander through them with watery hues and hidden voices a ever changing soundscape is created around you. The piece is inspired by the views of women in global society, seen through the lens of ancient mythology. This special Leicester edition is shaped by the voices and experiences of a local women's group. My film the second from this years #JourneysFestivalInternational by  @_ArtReach  begins with  @LeicesterCathedral  bells ringing as we turn to see the artwork installed in the gardens, as we explore the stones the various sounds of the women's voices mix with the sound of crows and the Cathedrals own resident Peregrines. As we take a closer look at the markings on the stones we experience, through the magic of editing, Day turning to night and the piece taking on an even more otherworldly form in the darkness the rocks now glow as the voices becom...

Gaia by Luke Jerram, Leicester Cathedral

Whats is "Gaia" ?, In Greek Mythology Gaia is the personification of the Earth.  The artist Luke Jerram returns to Leicester Cathedral in 2021 with Gaia, A touring artwork measuring seven metres in diameter and created from detailed NASA imagery of the planets surface, Gaia provides the opportunity to see our planet earth in three dimensions. The installation aims to create a sense of the Overview Effect, which was first described by author Frank White in 1987. In my film I try to capture the awe inspiring sight of the installation as it fills the cathedral gently rotating above visitors heads and surrounded by the centuries old cathedral with it columns and arches. At the time of exhibition the world is in a unprecedented position with various new "challenges" faced globally day to day,  Luke's work gives us a chance to reflect on this and evaluate our place in the universe and how we want to live our lives.
