Street Art, South Wigston, Wigston, Oadby.

I  take a look at newly completed street art in Leicestershire detailing the histories and brightening up the built environment in the towns of South Wigston, Wigston and Oadby . We start in South Wigston with a mural featuring Orson Wright a man credited with building most of the town in the 19th century, commissioned by Oadby & Wigston Borough Council (OWBC) and designed in collaboration with the Greater Wigston Historical Society (GWHS), the design features steam engines representing the railways, factory workers and biscuit production companies like Jacobs Biscuits that made the town famous throughout the world. On too Wigston now and a mural painted on the side of the Air Ambulance Charity shop and featuring a wide selection of local figures and local history from the Air Ambulance itself to the Kilby Lock, St Wistan and the Framework Knitters Museum among others. Onto Oadby Parade to complete our trilogy and a floral themed work spanning the length of the parade of shops...

A Series of Panoramic Photos taken by me at Leicester University`s Botanical Gardens, featuring the spectacular gardens and the sculptures that are placed in the garden during their annual sculpture exhibition.       An Acer Palmatum Atrosanguineum burns fiery red in a border  at Leicester Botanical Gardens Sean Henry`s Man With Potential Selves (III) one of the sculptures on display at the Sculpture in the garden event. Down the Garden Path, One of many borders filled with a wide selection  of flowers at Leicester Botanical Gardens. A covered walkway gives this part of  Leicester's botanical gardens a almost Mediterranean feel . The traditional formal garden area is the ideal setting for  artist Brigitte Jurack`s Piece 'Distribution of wealth'. Eilis O'Connell`s Carapace & Kathrine Gili`s Serrata  are amongst the sculptures on display at this years event.

Oadby & Wigston Diamond Jubilee Charity Show

This Poster was designed by me for The Oadby & Wigston Diamond Jubilee Charity Show held at Parklands Leisure Centre in Oadby during the Queens Diamond Jubilee year of 2012. The design takes its inspiration in equal measures from the music hall posters of the past and from the famous Keep Calm And Carry On posters of wartime Britain, This style allows for lots of information to be displayed in a small amount of space whilst not being overly complicated for the viewer to read. The poster uses a Red, White & Blue colour scheme appropriate for the subject matter and features the Union Jack flag repeated in these colours as a border. The design is broken up by the use of grass at the bottom of the page and a number of "Royal" Ladybirds scattered throughout (how many can you spot ?). The event will raise much needed funds for local charity's Menphys and the Oadby & Wigston Branch of Age UK.

Menphys Walk Poster 2012

I was asked to design a poster for the Menphys walk an annual charity walk taking place on 13th may 2012 in Leicestershire. Taking its cues from last years poster for the 30th walk (also designed by me !) it features an refinement of that years footprint idea giving the poster a 'walked on' look. This motif has been continued onto all associated media for the event including banners and sponsor forms as well as any merchandise such as stickers, water bottles etc. The poster uses the charity's colour scheme of Red Grey & Black & utilizes the Teen typeface to allow the poster to make it easy to read but also portray a fun and playful personality,  The Teen typeface is teamed up with Earwig Factory evoking memories of children`s A is for apple type alphabet posters. The Poster additionally features a QR code to allow interested persons to scan the code with their smartphone triggering a free download of a registration form for the walk creating an incre...
