STORM, By Vision Mechanics Leicester City Festival

Over the August bank holiday weekend a giant sea goddess roamed the streets of Leicester, Her name was STORM and she came with a message to protect our seas. STORM, Created by Vision Mechanics, is a ten meter tall goddess of the sea who emerges from the deep to celebrate our seas and encourage us to put the environment first. Two years in the making and made entirely from recycled materials, the giant puppet visited Leicester as part of the annual city festival in 2022. We find her resting in The Circle wrapped in fishing nets and man made waste before she is released by a group of people in yellow storm coats and serenaded by Taiko Drums beating traditional Japanese rhythms before she begins her tour of the city streets. Moving into the city center three swallows surround her and guide her to the Clock Tower area where she passes a fun fair. At the Cloc...

Leicestershire Floods

A look at the flooded fields in the whistle meadows area of Leicestershire. After several days of heavy rain the fields around Narborough, Croft and Huncote known as Whistle Meadows due to the disused railway (whistle way) than runs alongside, became flooded after the river soar burst its banks. The flooded fields stretch away into the distance broken only by the Leicester to Birmingham railway line and the occasional tree, gate or fence. Ducks and wildlife usually confined to the river boundaries can be seen throughout enjoying the extra space. Images Follow

Storm St Jude - Cornwall 2013

On the 27th October 2013 much of the UK was battered by Storm St Jude. I travelled to Cornwall to witness the storm as it made landfall on the Cornish coast. High waves and strong winds battered the coastline and the lighthouse at Godrevey as the storm approached. Despite the epic scene a small Kestrel hovered in front of me its head and eyes fixed on its prey below whist it expertly used its wings to steady itself against the gale force wind that made my attempts to stay stood upright look futile in comparison. I later moved on to Newquay and the famous Cribbar wave which like a monster rose from sea and smashed into the rocks below, as the wind speed increased we set off for home. images follow
