Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. Click to download BOM template To avoid file missing, please include all files into one folder and compress it into .zip or .rar format.

PCB Assembly Drawing: Show How the Board Must Be Built

Use an assembly drawing to communicate orientation, population, mechanical details and assembly notes that a BOM or Gerber set cannot express clearly on its own.

Prototype through production · scope and schedule confirmed after file review

At a glance: The assembly drawing describes the populated build; the fabrication drawing describes the bare board. They serve different release decisions.

Plan the work before releasing the files

Make the views unambiguous

For a prototype assembly review, provide top and bottom assembly views as needed, with reference designators, component outlines and clear orientation. Label the viewing direction so a mirrored bottom view cannot be mistaken for a top view.

Identify connector orientation, pin 1 and polarity for parts where a mistake would be difficult to detect or rework. Keep critical notes readable at the exported page size; a crowded screenshot is not a controlled assembly document.

Describe what the placement file does not

Add DNP markings, variant notes, hardware, fasteners, cables, adhesives, coating keep-outs and other project-specific assembly instructions. Define any required torque or process value through the approved design rather than generic text.

For turnkey PCB assembly, cross-reference the BOM and relevant mechanical drawings so sourcing and assembly use the same requirements. If a non-electrical item is required for delivery, give it an identifier and a clear source of specification.

Release it with the build package

Put assembly number, revision and variant on the drawing and check consistency with the BOM and placement export in the PCB assembly data package. Review the final PDF rather than assuming the CAD view exported exactly as intended.

When a change affects population or orientation, revise the drawing and identify the affected build. Keep previous releases for traceability without mixing them into the current manufacturing folder. Define the drawing features to compare during first article inspection so the fitted assembly is reviewed against the intended variant.

Keep the review concrete

Include these requirements in your enquiry

01

Top and bottom views are correctly labeled

02

Reference designators are legible

03

Pin 1 and polarity are identified

04

DNP and variant rules match the BOM

05

Mechanical and special assembly notes are included

06

Exported PDF matches the released revision

Mark unresolved items explicitly. Ask the quotation to identify proposed exceptions, required customer approvals and any inspection or special-process charges that remain open.

PCB Assembly Drawing FAQ

Is silkscreen enough as an assembly drawing?

Usually it does not communicate all population, orientation and mechanical instructions. Use a controlled drawing for the information the build requires.

Does the drawing replace pick-and-place data?

No. The drawing communicates human-readable intent; placement data supplies machine-oriented coordinates, sides and rotations. They should agree.
