Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. Click to download BOM template To avoid file missing, please include all files into one folder and compress it into .zip or .rar format.

Hipot Test for Defined PCB and Assembly Insulation Requirements

Plan dielectric withstand testing around the actual insulation barriers, product configuration and approved acceptance requirements. Send PCBSync a clear scope for engineering review and quotation.

At a glance: A hipot result concerns the specified insulation paths and test conditions. It is different from a continuity check, insulation-resistance measurement or complete product safety certification.

Define the test before approving the result

Define the barrier and governing requirement

Identify the conductors or groups separated by the insulation under review. State whether the specimen is a bare board, populated assembly, cable-connected module or finished product. Provide the schematic, relevant drawings and the requirement that establishes the test scope.

The approved product requirement determines the waveform, voltage, duration, limits and preparation. A generic rule based only on operating voltage is not enough to choose these settings. Confirm the test method and any customer or certification-body instructions with the responsible engineer before work is quoted.

Review the assembled configuration

Components, filters, protection devices, connectors and external wiring can change the path seen by the tester. Define the configuration used for the test and any authorized preparation explicitly. Do not remove protective components or alter a circuit merely to obtain a passing reading.

Distinguish the planned withstand check from a deliberate breakdown investigation. Repeated or excessive stress can damage a specimen, and an interrupted or failed test needs controlled disposition. Ask the test plan to identify retry rules, abnormal outcomes and the review required before another execution.

Plan a controlled test station and realistic effort

Physical high-voltage testing belongs in a qualified, controlled setup with appropriate guarding, interlocks and verified discharge provisions. The equipment, connection method and operating procedure must be suitable for the DUT and the approved test. A web calculator cannot authorize those operations.

For production planning, enter the complete approved station sequence time in the time tool, including ramp, dwell and required discharge or verification time. Add handling separately only when it is not already included. The result is sequential station effort from your assumptions, not a promised turnaround or a recommended test duration.

Ask for a report that identifies the tested scope

Specify unit identity, hardware and test-program revisions, the tested path, applied conditions, measured result and disposition records. Define how aborted tests, contact problems and repeat executions are recorded. The report should make a valid completed test distinguishable from a missing or interrupted run.

Send the requirements and available evidence with your quantity and timing. PCBSync can review the proposed PCB manufacturing or PCB assembly test scope and identify open inputs. Confirm responsibilities for fixtures, procedures and release before the order; the quotation should state the agreed coverage and exclusions.

Hipot Test FAQ

Is hipot the same as dielectric withstand testing?

Hipot is commonly used for dielectric withstand testing. Confirm the exact method because related insulation tests can have different objectives and reporting requirements.

Can the website choose a safe test voltage?

No. The governing product requirement, barrier and configuration determine the approved test conditions.

Does passing hipot certify the complete product?

No. It supports the specified insulation check. Product certification and other electrical or functional requirements have separate evidence and approval processes.

Discuss your Hipot Test requirements

Send the scope you want reviewed

Add your test-scope brief or planning scenario from the tools above. Include the controlled product revision, requested quantity, required timing and open acceptance questions.

Provide the product/test specification, schematic and insulation-path map, exact DUT configuration, approved method and acceptance basis. Include requested quantity, timing, report fields and responsibility for fixture and procedure validation. Mark unknown settings for engineering review rather than selecting them from an online example.
