Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. Click to download BOM template To avoid file missing, please include all files into one folder and compress it into .zip or .rar format.

In-Circuit Testing for Production PCB Assemblies

Turn your electrical test requirements into a reviewed ICT plan. Coordinate access, fixture development, program validation and unit-level results with PCBSync before moving a build into repeat production.

At a glance: ICT checks the measurements implemented in a validated program. Contact access, circuit interactions and available instrumentation define its scope; system operation and lifetime reliability remain separate questions.

Define the test before approving the result

Define the electrical checks and exclusions

Start with the circuit features and assembly faults that matter to the product. Opens, shorts, passive-value checks and selected device tests need suitable access and measurement conditions. A statement that a board receives ICT is useful only when the program scope and exclusions are also known.

Provide the controlled BOM, schematic and layout data with product variants identified as part of the PCB assembly release package. Ask for a review of component tolerances, parallel paths and inaccessible nodes. A percentage based on contacted nets cannot be treated as a measured percentage of all possible defects detected.

Develop the fixture and program together

The test program depends on the electrical connections that the fixture can reliably make. Board support, contact locations, component clearance, alignment and the tester interface belong in one coordinated review. Confirm the actual platform and proposed capabilities for your order.

Program debug should distinguish a board fault from a contact, data or test-condition problem. Agree reference material and validation checks before release. Changes to limits, fixture wiring or program logic need controlled revision records so subsequent results remain interpretable.

Request evidence that helps resolve a failure

Specify unit identity, board/BOM revision, program revision, measured parameter, result, limits and disposition where applicable. Failed records should make the location and measurement clear enough to guide investigation. Keep first-run and repeated results distinguishable.

A unit that passes after reseating or rerunning should not erase the initial observation. Define retry rules and when a test engineer must review the result. For a production issue, compare the product evidence with fixture maintenance and station checks before changing acceptance criteria.

Plan production effort and complementary stages

Use the station-time tool with measured test and handling assumptions to discuss batch capacity. Include setup and additional executions explicitly. It models one sequential station and does not calculate the time needed for program development, diagnosis, repairs or production queues.

Review ICT alongside optical inspection, X-ray and functional testing according to the product requirements. Some platforms can combine functions, but the proposed configuration must be stated. For repeat contract manufacturing, send PCBSync the intended build quantity, forecast and required report to obtain a scope-specific quotation.

Keep the review concrete

Include these requirements in your enquiry

01

Controlled BOM, schematic and layout

02

Product variants and required electrical checks

03

Test access and mechanical information

04

Acceptance limits with their source

05

Reference material and program validation plan

06

Unit tracking, retry rules and report requirements

Mark unresolved items explicitly. Ask the quotation to identify proposed exceptions, required customer approvals and any inspection or special-process charges that remain open.

In-Circuit Testing FAQ

Does ICT replace functional testing?

ICT addresses its programmed checks. Product operating modes, interfaces and loads may require functional testing, either separately or in an explicitly configured combined system.

Is every component independently measurable?

Not necessarily. Access and circuit interactions can limit measurement or require another technique. Confirm the coverage map and exclusions.

Can I get an immediate fixed ICT price?

A reliable price needs board data, fixture/program scope, quantity, reporting and validation requirements. Use the enquiry workbench to prepare those inputs.
