Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. Click to download BOM template To avoid file missing, please include all files into one folder and compress it into .zip or .rar format.

BOM List for PCB Assembly: Fields That Identify the Build

Create a bill of materials that connects each fitted component to its location and approved identity. Distinguish a manufacturing BOM from a simple shopping list.

Plan the work before releasing the files

Give each field a clear purpose

Reference designators identify component positions. Quantity states how many are fitted per assembly. Manufacturer and full part number identify the approved device. Description and footprint help reviewers detect inconsistent or ambiguous entries.

A supplier stock code can help purchasing, but it is not a substitute for manufacturer identity. Keep distributor references separate so a supplier change does not silently change the engineering definition of the part.

Represent DNP and variants explicitly

State do-not-populate positions and variant-specific changes in a controlled way, including options being evaluated during prototype PCB assembly. Do not leave a missing BOM row as the only indication that a position should remain empty.

Check that the quantity agrees with the listed fitted designators for the chosen variant. Distinguish one-board usage from procurement quantity so a production multiplier is not accidentally applied twice.

Add the purchasing context without losing control

For turnkey PCB assembly, include supply ownership, approved alternatives and notes for critical or programmed devices where needed. Keep proposals separate from approved substitutions and retain revision history for changes. For repeat builds under an electronic contract manufacturing agreement, define who approves substitutions and releases each BOM revision.

Before requesting PCB assembly, compare the BOM with placement data and assembly drawings. The readiness tool records known gaps but does not inspect your spreadsheet or certify a match. Retain the approved records in the PCB build package, including the exact image and programming instructions for any programmed parts.

Keep the review concrete

Include these requirements in your enquiry

01

Manufacturer and full MPN are populated

02

Designators are unique within the fitted variant

03

Quantity is stated per assembly

04

DNP positions are controlled

05

Alternatives have approval status

06

BOM and placement revisions agree

Mark unresolved items explicitly. Ask the quotation to identify proposed exceptions, required customer approvals and any inspection or special-process charges that remain open.

Answers before requesting a quote

BOM List FAQ

Is a part description enough for a production BOM?

Usually it is not enough to identify an approved commercial component. Provide the manufacturer and complete MPN or a controlled specification agreed for that item.

Should DNP components be included?

They should be unambiguously represented in the released configuration, whether in a dedicated status field or a clearly linked variant document.
