Common technical questions

Before you send a request

What files are needed for a PCB fabrication quotation?

Prepare the released Gerber and drill data, a fabrication drawing or specification, quantity and target date. Identify the material, finished thickness, copper, surface finish and any impedance, testing or reporting requirements. Mark unknowns so engineering can review them; do not silently mix outputs from different revisions.

What extra information does PCB assembly need?

Add a BOM with manufacturer part numbers and quantities per board, placement data and assembly drawings. Identify DNP components, sourcing responsibility and substitution rules. Include programming, test and special-process instructions where applicable. The assembly page explains the quotation scope.

Are online calculations and checklist results approved manufacturing specifications?

No. Tools support preliminary engineering decisions using their stated assumptions. Confirm the actual material, stack-up, geometry, tolerances and acceptance conditions with the responsible engineer. The preparation checklist records what you say is available; it does not inspect files or certify a design.

How should I ask about a manufacturing or quality issue?

Include the order or lot reference, board revision, observed symptom, relevant conditions and available images or measurements. State the agreed acceptance criteria and the response you need, such as a report explanation, additional test or investigation. Contact the team before sending sensitive design information.

Where can I check the current IPC edition or Gerber specification?

Use the publisher's official source. PCBSync's guides and PDFs explain practical decisions but do not replace the licensed standard. The official references below provide revision, format and CAD-documentation starting points.
