Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. Click to download BOM template To avoid file missing, please include all files into one folder and compress it into .zip or .rar format.

PCBA Functional Testing (FCT): Define and Verify Product Operation

Verify the operating checks that matter to your assembly. Work with PCBSync to define inputs, loads, interfaces, firmware, limits and reports before a functional test becomes a production release step.

What is PCBA functional testing? FCT checks an assembled board against defined operating requirements using specified inputs, loads, firmware and pass/fail limits. A power-on check is only one possible step; coverage comes from the agreed modes and measurements.

Define the test before approving the result

Translate product behavior into measurable checks

Describe what the assembly must do, under which input and load conditions, and how the result will be judged. Include the required operating modes, interfaces and timing. Replace a vague instruction such as “check that it works” with observable outcomes and a controlled acceptance basis.

Supply the product revision, BOM options, schematic and relevant interface information. If the test plan is incomplete, mark the open requirements in the workbench. PCBSync can review the proposed scope and identify the inputs needed for a quotation; the checklist itself does not validate the design.

Control firmware and configuration

Functional behavior can depend on firmware, boot configuration, calibration data and product options. State the approved image identity, IC programming sequence and verification requirements. Keep unit-specific provisioning requirements in a controlled process rather than sharing secrets in a general enquiry.

Agree how software versions are recorded with the test result. A changed image or configuration can alter timing, expected outputs and limits. The production program and work instruction should identify which combinations are supported and what requires another review.

Define the test interface and report

The setup may need connectors, probes, representative loads, stimulus sources and measurement instruments. Confirm who supplies each item and how repeatable connections will be maintained. A customer-provided bench setup may need additional work before it is suitable for routine production. Review that transition during the prototype assembly stage, while fixture access and test requirements can still be refined.

Ask the report to link each unit to its hardware, firmware and test-program revisions. Include relevant measured values, units, limits and failure information. Define retry, repair and retest handling so the final result can be traced to the sequence of events. Include record ownership and change control in the contract manufacturing scope.

Review schedule and scope before placing the order

Separate test development, fixture preparation and validation from repeated unit execution. The time planner uses your own test and handling assumptions for one sequential station. It does not infer readiness from a green checklist or promise manufacturing lead time.

Provide quantity, required timing, report detail and any existing test resources with your enquiry. Include this scope in the PCB assembly manufacturing request so assembly and test responsibilities are reviewed together. Agree which requirements are covered, which remain outside scope and who approves release. Reliability qualification, environmental stress and regulatory evaluation require their own defined plans where applicable.

Keep the review concrete

Include these requirements in your enquiry

01

Product requirements and acceptance limits

02

Hardware/BOM and firmware revision

03

Input, load and interface requirements

04

Existing test procedure or reference setup

05

Quantity, timing and station responsibilities

06

Report, retry and release requirements

Mark unresolved items explicitly. Ask the quotation to identify proposed exceptions, required customer approvals and any inspection or special-process charges that remain open.

PCB Functional Test FAQ

Is power-on testing enough?

Only if that is the complete agreed requirement. Interfaces, loads, modes and performance measurements may need additional steps.

Can I supply my own test fixture?

Yes, include its documentation, condition, interfaces and procedure for review. Suitability and validation for the intended build must be confirmed.

Does FCT prove lifetime reliability?

It supports the specified operating checks at the tested conditions. Lifetime and environmental claims need appropriate separate evidence.
