Military PCB Procurement: Verify Eligibility, Requirements and Traceability

Identify the standards and customer requirements that govern the proposed purchase. Establish who can receive the technical data and who must approve the supplier and manufacturing site.

Qualification and the requirements for a particular delivered part are distinct. The purchase still needs controlled drawings, applicable revisions, required inspections and clearly defined acceptance records.

Specify the required links between material, fabrication lot, PCB assembly configuration and inspection records. Identify the certificates and supporting data that must accompany delivery.

Define how substitutions and nonconformances are reported and approved. A record should describe the actual disposition; do not relabel a nonconformance as a conforming measurement merely because a deviation was accepted.

Assign responsibility for each required document and characteristic. Record what has evidence, what has been reviewed and what remains open.
