Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. Click to download BOM template To avoid file missing, please include all files into one folder and compress it into .zip or .rar format.

Electronic Contract Manufacturing: Define the Product, Partnership and Release

Plan an outsourced electronics build with clear responsibility for materials, assembly, testing and product release. Prepare the scope PCBSync should review, from a controlled PCBA package to a wider integration project.

At a glance: Electronic contract manufacturing is production performed to an agreed customer scope; the design authority, supply responsibility and acceptance requirements must be defined for the actual project.

Plan the work before releasing the files

Begin with the product and the deliverable

Identify whether the requested output is an assembled board, an integrated module, an enclosure build or a configured finished unit. Include the intended production phase, expected demand pattern and the documents that define the released product.

Separate requested services from confirmed capabilities. A proposal should identify the work accepted by the supplier, any partner-supported operations and the tasks retained by the customer before a production commitment is made.

Allocate engineering and commercial responsibilities

Record who owns the design, approves substitutions, resolves design questions and authorizes engineering changes. Define material purchasing, excess inventory and customer-supplied items in the quotation scope.

Assign contacts for technical decisions and supply issues. A named decision path helps prevent an unanswered component question from becoming an undocumented substitution or an unexplained schedule change.

Transfer the process as well as the files

A manufacturing transfer needs controlled drawings, BOM, fabrication and placement data, software versions and test requirements. Include known assembly issues, fixtures and lessons from earlier builds rather than relying on a sample alone.

Use a pilot with documented acceptance criteria to resolve the process before volume release. Identify what evidence the customer expects, who reviews it and which open issues block the next release.

Define evidence and the next quotation step

Ask for relevant quality documentation, test coverage, traceability scope and change-control records. Confirm that any certificate presented applies to the actual organization, facility and work under consideration.

Use the readiness workbench to prepare a responsibility brief. A reviewed quotation should state exclusions, non-recurring charges, material assumptions and delivery dependencies; this page does not promise an unverified certification or production capacity.

Keep the review concrete

Include these requirements in your enquiry

01

Delivered product and service scope are defined

02

Design authority and change approvals are assigned

03

Material ownership and substitution rules are stated

04

Release files and software revisions are controlled

05

Pilot and production acceptance criteria are agreed

06

Quality evidence and traceability needs are specified

Mark unresolved items explicitly. Ask the quotation to identify proposed exceptions, required customer approvals and any inspection or special-process charges that remain open.

Electronic Contract Manufacturing FAQ

How is contract manufacturing different from PCB assembly?

PCB assembly is one operation. A contract manufacturing project can include sourcing, integration, configuration and other agreed services around that operation.

Can PCBSync quote a production transfer?

Send the current release package, demand plan, known process issues and acceptance requirements so the transfer scope and feasibility can be reviewed.

What should a first inquiry contain?

Include the delivered item, revision, quantity, timing, supply ownership and the tests or records needed for acceptance.

Technical links checked 2 October 2026. Apply the current documentation and project-specific acceptance requirements. Planners do not certify manufacturability or validate uploaded design files.

Send the scope you want reviewed

Add a project brief or reference budget from the tools above. Include your assembly revision, requested quantity, required timing and open engineering questions.

For a quotation, prepare the fabrication files, BOM and placement data, plus the drawing and any test or programming instructions relevant to the work. Need an NDA or a specific file-transfer route? Contact us before sharing files.
